Can anyone recommend a .45 pistol that is somewhat saltwater friendly that won't break the bank in case something did happen to it? It will be kept in a holster mounted in the console.

If you have any other suggestions or advice, please share. Thanks

Look at a stainless Ruger, for the most part the internal parts are made from stainless, not just the slide.

If you're set on 45 get anything and get it Robar NP3 coated.

I keep a Sig Sauer P226 Navy (9mm) on my boat, it's also my CCW. The MK25/Navy with the anchors on them are phosphor coated for the salt water environment.
I've had mine on my boat for a couple years now with no rust whatsoever.

Remington Marine Magnum or Mossberg Mariner

If I were carrying a pistol on board I'd wipe down everything with a thin lube (Corrosion X or Breakfree CLP) then put it in a ziplock.

M&P .45; every part is either plastic or stainless steel.

The M&P .40 I carried in town and in the field  for 4 years never showed even the slightest hint of corrosion anywhere.

I like the pistol a lot; but you don't weep over a plastic gun.

Out of respect to some here I will not recommend a Glock Model 21.

I will recommend Frog Lube if you decide on something that needs lubed.

I swim, camp, fish, canoe, and Kayak with my PM9 in my pocket.  She gets sprayed down with CRC 66 before and after every trip and is still working perfect years later.

M&P or Glock would get my vote.

This.

Glocks are really resistant to corrosion too.  Any gun that you hit with Corrosion Block

Thanks for all the help.

I've been using a s&w 6906 with no issues, but thought I might want to go up to .45 because I sometimes go in the caloosahatchee where I've seen quite a few gators. I'm not sure if 9mm would be ideal in case of some kind of attack.

The Sig navy or pm9 would be awesome but a little out of my budget. I've been eyeing a used XDM with stainless slide and was leaning that way if I could get it cheap enough.

Is there really a big difference in the corrosion resistance between Ruger, S&W, Glock, Springfield, etc.? What do you guys carry?

That is a good idea. I never thought of using Corrosion Block. Thanks

I carried a Ballistol soaked G17 on my boat(s) for years - never a corrosion/rust issue.

Anything with a lanyard hole really.

Just so you'll have a way to fasten a line to your new boat anchor.

I would say forget the 45 and get a Taurus stainless steel revolver used under $400 is not hard. 357 mag or 44 mag  are both great sd calibers, 38 can dispatch most critters, and shot shells for nuisance birds.

.50 is close enough to .45 right?

Remington 870 Marine Magnum and multiple Glocks. Standard load our for our boat. Fuck with us and even my 12-year old will shoot your ass off.

OP, if you are using the pistol mainly against potential gator attacks and not taking it to the range every weekend to chew through boxes of ammo, look at the glock 20. Nothing says "die gator" like a 10mm through the skull.
