I am staying with my family today through next Saturday in the Destin area. Four daughters ages 3 through 11. Please recommend things to do, places to see, and nice places to swim/snorkel. Also recommend your favorite relatively inexpensive seafood or other restaurant. Any info is greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Brian

Take the kids to the seaquarium one day if they're too sunburned or the weather is iffy.
Destin has some wonderful beaches for swimming (all of them). There is a state park (Henderson Beach) on the beach that has nice facilities (bathrooms, showers, covered pavilions). Forget about snorkeling. There isn't really any structure (reefs) that you can readily access to see anything. I'll let somebody else more familiar give restaurant advice, but there are a bunch of good restaurants serving seafood. |

Gulfarium is fun for kids.
They have some new baby dolphins there. Seafood is $$$$ no matter where you go. We like Harbor docks. Less deep fried shit than the most other places and local fish only. http://www.harbordocks.com/ http://boshamps.com/ they get their fish from above. Go to Henderson Beach State Park to avoid beach crowds. (on weekdays) Bring $$$$$ Destin is not cheap...

Too bad you don't have sons, the Eglin Armament museum is excellent!!!!
https://www.afarmamentmuseum.com/history_eglin.shtml Avoid Eastern Okaloosa County beaches (The Crab trap area) because we had so much rain lately the inland ponds/ lakes are being pumped into the Gulf so bye bye emerald green water for a awhile... |

Sounds good!! Keep them coming. I plan on going to Fort Pickens, and will check out the Eglin Museum. Also Boshamps looks good. A friend of mine mentioned a crab shack in Fort Walton that was across the road from a hotel, and next to a marina just off the main drag. He couldn't remember the name of the road name. He said the locals recommended it and it was great. Does it ring a bell with anyone? |
