Fellas, I need some help on what to see and perhaps avoid in the st. Augustine area.  Wife and I are bringing the kids over for a little day trip from the gainesville area. We have the whole morning open to do a few things that are recommended. My wife wants to go to the lighthouse and check out the fort, are  they worth it?

The afternoon is  reserved for some beach time.

Heading out tomorrow morning so ill check the thread out until then. Thanks a ton guys!

I would make a day of it on the beach side....

Alligator Farm

Light House (if the kids are big enough to clime it.

Fort Matanzas - the price is right - Free lol      http://www.nps.gov/foma/index.htm

and the beach is right across the street.

The best place to get ice cream on the beach is Rita's

I hope that helps...

+1 on Ft Matanzas.  The big fort is well worth a visit, but Matanzas is off the beaten path, no crowds and neat to explore.  When you climb the ladder to the top floor you get a real sense of how tiny people were back then.

My $.02 on food while your there:

Hey Moxy,

Have you Tried "Flavors" on King street - about two blocks east of the Winery?  I love that place!

OP - have fun - Hit Ritea's on your way to the Little Fort - it is beach side about a block south of the St. Augustine Peir

Slugo - I went up A1A yesterday afternoon - with all the boat on the beach - the Kings must be in!

And one more thing...

I do love the Bunnery - just hard to get to...

Have you tried the Dinner about a block north of the winery - across from the Old East Coast Railway Office (now part of the Flagler Collage)?
