I am new to this and only recently started to purchase guns to start shooting as a hobby. As I already have a few handguns, I wanted to purchase an AR-15 rifle so I went to Delray Shooting Center as I was told that they had a nice selection. My first impression upon walking into the store was that I would have no problems purchasing a new AR-15 as I saw a nice selection of weapons…. That is until this fat guy in basketball shorts opened his mouth. I was patient and waited until he came over to help me and when I asked him a simple question of what the best price he can do on a specific rifle his response was “Its right on the price tag.”, and then looked at me as if I was stupid just because I may be a novice in the gun world. I quickly saw how this experience went from what I thought would be great into realizing that I wasted my time driving to this place and left the store to go elsewhere to purchase my new AR-15.
I guess this guy doesn’t know anything about customer service and that they will be loosing customers time and time again if they talk to people this way. I will never go back and would be glad to pay a higher price elsewhere rather then give my business to Delray Shooting Center. |

| I had a bad experience there several years ago and refuse to go back. I rented a SIG P220 there and it had multiple FTF and FTE's mainly because it was filthy. I told the same guy and he said that I complained alot. I paid for my range time and told him that there were better and more friendly places to shoot. They really need to learn some customer service skills. |

As someone who works in a firearms store, you have no idea how many times we hear the "what's your best price" line. In MOST cases (if you're a good store) you don't have high mark ups and don't really have any room to work with... especially right now. But there are always exceptions, and recently you have seen the price gouging pricks come out of the wood work (not all high prices are people gouging, some places simply had to pay more for guns) but $2500 for a sport is kinda retarded ;).
Now the dude really should have handled that better, I wont defend him... but i've said something like that before usually in a comical voice so you actually laugh. |
| I understand that the prices are much higher now due to the inflation of weapons and ammo but no need to be rude and arrogant. It wasn't comical and so I went elsewhere to spend my money. I know I overpaid as is everyone else who is buying right now but Im fine with that. I will overpay, just not at Delray Shooting Center. |

Me too, I work the Tactical counter at Gander Mtn, I get alot of crap from the more experienced people, mostly FFLs trying to buy up my stock so they can dbl the price at their little shitty hole in the wall shop in some strip plaza. We still get plenty of good stuff if the OP wants a nice AR. Come in early thursday morning, around 6:00, we open at 9, get a number and you will be served w/ a smile. Last week we got some real nice Sig 516's for $1699, M400's for $1200 , M&P 15 for $1000 and Colt 6920's for about the same price as the M&P. Most if not all the LGS treat people like crap, esp if they are new. Btw you have the best S/N here I think this is the 3rd thread or so slamming this place. Where there is smoke there is fire. I think I should take a trip down there just for a look see and ask some questions like can my AR shoot 5.56 if it says .223 ? Does AR stand for Assault Rifle ? Do you have any Hi-Point pistols , are they the same as HK's ? |

Wrong time to buy an ar dude. No such thing as good prices right now. I know I ain't buy shit until I can get one for under $800 again. Same here... I have what I need to finish two more builds... after that, more AR15's just won't be in my future. I like em, have MANY of them, but I'm not NOT buying more parts for the price they are going for now, they are NOT that great IMO. |

Suggesting that you would visit another establishment simply for the purposes of interfering with their business is pretty low class for someone who also works for a gun store.
In fact; IMO, it is dishonorable. Besides; Gander Mountain's reputation for prices ain't all that great.......... and neither is their sales staff. Just sayin'. |

Just get there at 6AM, three hours before they open the place and patiently hang out with the huge crowd that will be milling around and wait to take advantage of their famously low prices, until the doors open . Then walk right over to the guy who "works the tactical counter at Gander Mountain"; he should be real easy to spot. He will "service you with a smile." |

(I ask because I have never been there and thought it was like Dicks or Bass Pro) Also Mr.A1911Shooter guy...in your posts (not necessarily in this thread, but everytime you chime in about other stores) ...you make it sound like YOU have a gunshop. Your posts sound misleading since you work at a major brick and mortar sporting goods store and it's not YOUR shop. |
Joins up just to complain about DSC?
And as stated, while prices are significantly down across the board (I just sold an AR for $1k last week) they're still not back to pre crazy prices. If you REALLY need an AR right now, you're gonna pay more for it, especially from a place that's notorious for high prices and questionable customer service. I tell you this though, you won't find ANY gun shop, even the ones known for good prices, with cheap ARs. |

I didn't know you could find higher prices than Delray Shooting Center. Gander Mountain; no contest, even before the current scarcity of product. I still spend a lot of time and some money in Gander but my purchases have been limited to licorice, Life is Good, Salt Life and Guy Harvey tee shirts and the occasional box of AE .223 when they used to have it on sale a decent prices. Their firearm prices have been historically a joke, as anyone who has actually shopped there knows for a fact; despite what some obvious shill might claim. Before the current hysteria......Bushmaster optics ready AR with Eotech 512: I've seen one there for almost $1600.00. SIG pistols, a couple of hundred dollars above manufacturers list for some models. There were guns in the cases before the present buying panic that were priced hundreds above what I paid for them at gun shows and other gun stores; including Delray Shooting Center. And as for Gander Mountain having a "tactical counter".............
Gander Mountain is a great place to go to handle some guns you might be interested in buying, and to have a laugh at the expense of the derpsters working behind the counters. But when it's actually time to buy; you go someplace else.......anywhere........but elsewhere. I'm tired of all the bullshit. |

To the contrary; the people working behind the counter at Gander Mountain make me feel like an absolute genius whenever I engage them in discussion. Like the gal who assured me that Kimber was absolutely the best 1911 ever produced at any price, and the guy who swore to me that he was regularly obtaining 4" groups at 1000 yards............with his "M14". The guy who was trying to sell a pistol to a woman several hundred dollars above list price and when a manager was called over to see if a better price was available, the manager told the woman "that's less than what they cost us". And he was talking about manufacturer's list. Or the counter guy who tried to sell me a SIG P226 X5 .40 for $200+ above manufacturer's list price; last summer well before the current panic and assured me thatI didn't know what I was talking about when I informed him of the actual manufacturer's list price. I love speaking with the people who work the gun counter at Gander Mountain; I always walk away smiling. |

Joins up just to complain about DSC? .Let me clarify that I didn't join just to complain... As I stated, I am new to shooting rifles and a good friend of mine who has spent several thousands of dollars there recommended this place for their good selection. When I was first being helped to get some information about different guns there was a very helpful guy with spikes hair who seemed to be very knowledgable and had given me advice on specific guns that he recommended. With his help I decided to look around at several others in the shop as I planned to purchase a few different guns that my friend had also recently purchased. I understand that I would have had to pay higher prices due to inflation which I was perfectly fine with but that was until I asked a simple question to the other guy and he was blatantly rude. So with that, I easily removed myself from their place of business and went to K and W gun works where I purchased my AR-15 with additional accessories as they were polite and helpful. As they didn't have a large selection of class 3 weapons I am looking elsewhere to purchase those and would have bought them at Delray Shooting center if it wasn't for the big guy being rude. They have a great employee in the guy with the spiky hair and with his help I would have been a customer of theirs. I myself will not go back due to my experience but if anyone decides to go spend money at delray shooting center, I would say to speak with the guy that was originally helping me as he was very friendly and knowledgable. |

What I find odd is that this person said I was rude and that I told him the price is on the tag. However there isn't a gun in my store with a price on the tag. That's pretty funny. I also find it odd that this was his very first post ever on here and he took the time to post this all over the place not just here. While I wont defend myself that I can be rude especially when warranted I think this person is an employee from another gun store in the area. Our prices are now below MSRP on everything except on a few cases where I had to pay more to have the gun. I don't quite see how saying the price is on the tag could have come off rude but hey every one is entitled to his opinion. I think its funny that if you do a google search of every gun store in this country they all are rip offs everyone is rude and they all suck. I could be wrong here but I highly doubt it. Just for shits and Giggles to the OP what day would this have been on?

You guys are pissing in the wind if you think you're going to find a good experience or good price at at gun shop in S Florida. I'm a gun nut and I wouldn't step foot in a LGS nor would I attempt to have any type of conversation with someone working behind the counter at LGS.
Do you own research on boards like this one then order over the net (when things return to normal) at the best price you can find. Have a good FFL in your location to do the transfer and don't pay over $25. Pre panic I found that buds was about the best priced but there are others out there. Google is your friend. I bought most of my glocks in ftf transactions off glocktalk classifieds although that was some years ago and I realized things have picked up quite a bit since everyone started preparing for the next shoe to drop (myself included). When things settle down I recommend building your own AR from palmettostatearmory parts. I helped a buddy build one last year and came in at less than $750. Since FN makes their barrels and I suspect the rest of their parts you're getting a tier 1 rifle at a tier 3 price. They just don't have a big name like Colt or LMT but it's the same thing. |

There are certain places that arent jacking up the price like crazy. which is why they got my business. Considering the nonsense that has been going on with prices currently, you did damn well; I've also noticed that, to their credit, Shoot Straight is one of the few places that hasn't jumped aboard the "price gouge wagon" these days. |

Pretty broad statement, I'm sure there are many here that could recommend a few good places, for me it's Lee's Pawn for the last ten or so years. Not to say I don't look in the usual places (Bud's, CDNN, private ads/forums etc) and then transfer through Lee for 25$. Over the years, I have found good deals at most shops. As far as the "what the best price he can do on a specific rifle" question.... You gotta understand something.... You asked a kid on the floor of a retail store what the price was, and, he told you "it's right there on the price tag." There's nothing that HE can do about the price.... his manager and owner decide what the prices are going to be. Too often, people come into a gun store figuring that the prices are made up out of thin air. Not true. Prices are on the price tag for a reason; so that you can read them. Also, PLEASE explain to me how somebody looks at you "as if I was stupid just because I may be a novice in the gun world." I did not know that such a look existed.... Done. |
