My son and I will have a couple days in Florida next week, and we would like to go deep sea fishing.

Wondering which coast is better?  Any good base cities to depart from?  And all like that.

Thanks.

I've been off of the Blue Heron a few times and had a pretty good time.  The only thing I hate about the party boats is the lines get tangled often.  For a more private expierence you may want to consider chartering a boat from a fishing guide.

Finding a good offshore guide on short notice is a rare thing.

Do you have experience with either of these?

I might be down there in a month or so and want to go on a charter.

If you want to go out of Miami the Ray Rosher is one of the best Miss Britt Charters

If going out of Key West then Rob Delph is the best Delph Fishing Charters

If you like inshore fishing in the everglades or lower biscayne bay then Bob Lemay will put you on fish.

You will get better advice if you state how much you're willing to spend and what kind of fish you want to catch.

Thanks guys.

We are doing a loop in the RV from Savannah GA to Jacksonville, to Kennedy Space Center, over to Tamps St. Pete, up through Panama City, and then over to Mobile AL.  Prolly not much south of that, but we could.

I don't want to do a party boat, and would be willing to spend several hundred for a good outing.

Right now, I am guessing the Gulf would be a smoother ride.

We won't keep the fish, it's for the excitement of catching something.  So, we want to catch something, the bigger, the better.

Thanks, again...

Then your best bet to catch something big is the east coast. You will have more opportunities to catch something big being pelagics, inshore, or bottom fish. Summertime is not big fish time on the west coast except for maybe tarpon or snook on the beaches. The great thing about summertime is both coasts will be mostly flat calm.

If "several hundred dollars" means less than $600 -$700, you probably won't be chartering a boat with a captain for yourself.  Keep in mind that charter boats like to receive a tip on top of the price they quote.

For $100 - $125 each, you should be able to find a "split charter".  That means that you and your son  will be on a charter with 2-4 other people.  You'll take turns in the fighting chair.  Here's an example of one in Palm Beach County  http://www.fishbolo.com

Party boats do catch a lot of fish. Check out the photos for this one in Lantana   http://www.barjackfishing.com/.  I've been on many of those trips and those are recent catches.  At this time of the year, they are not crowded.
.
My advice is to look for a split charter which will kite fish for sailfish.  I was out on the water Monday night off Boca Raton and there were sailfish jumping all around the boat, half a mile from the beach.

The guy that owns the Native is a friend of mine. so yes. He's a Jupiter local and you will get fish if you go out with him.  As for the Blue Heron, No. But lots of people I know have had a great time on her.
