Im coming home on leave from the 15th-4th, and was hoping to hit up a gunshow while there. Anybody know of any gunshows in central FL during that time?
Thanks |

I think it is a reasonably good show but "good" is relative. It is different each time and some shows are better than others - you never know until you go... Are you looking for anything in particular or just looking for a fun way to blow the better part of a day? Plan on getting there in the morning - you can easily spend 2 or 3 hours (or more) browsing & chatting with vendors. Things start to wind down around 4pm on Saturday (5 pm closing) and around 3 PM on Sunday (4 PM closing)... OBTW - parking is free, admission is $8 for adults... |

Yes it does. I believe classes run several hours and are give twice per day. I think that you should plan to be there before noon to catch the afternoon class. The class includes everything you need to get your CWL including fingerprints & photographs. They will likely have a copy of "Florida Firearms Law, Use, & Ownership" (link) for sale as well. If you don't have a current edition, it is worth getting. |

You're welcome... Oh, one last detail... the last thing your wife will do to complete the course will be to go to a local range and fire 1 round from a handgun... after which she will get her "certificate". It is an essential ingredient in getting the CWL - i.e. the certificate must be mailed with the rest of the application... The range is off the fairgrounds property and the trip happens immediately after the "classroom" portion of the course. Just a heads-up to help you plan your time at the show better. If you want to return to the show after the range trip, get your hand stamped at the door on the way to the range...

After selling ammo at the WPB, Melbourne, Orlando and DeLand shows for almost 2 years, I have a little insight for you. The prices you see are now the result of the manufacturers and not the retailers. A year ago this was not the case. A pretty good gauge is to look at Wal Mart prices. This is only a little above cost. But what has happend in the last year with Wally prices? About a 15-20 percent hike. This was across the board from Hornady, Federal and Winchester. They said it was due to raw materials costs for things like brass. Problem is, it was included on shot shells also which contain very little brass. I suspect they are cashing in on demand. Good on them. that is the American way. Problem is, prices VERY rarely go down from the manufacturer. So if you are waiting for pre Omama prices, have fun with your tacticool AR billy-club. The way that my boss made his money was specialty ammo that Wal Mart did not sell, like tungsten core tracer and surplus 7.62x54r and product knowledge that Wall Mart employees did not have. Ammo cans cost around $7.50 delivered for 30's and 50's. My boss sold them for 10.00. That is a 25% profit. The stock is starting to dry up, especially in 30's so if you need them buy now. Ammo profit is generally about 15%. When you start to include things like table rent, 75-85 per table, gas or hotel and food it is pretty hard to make ends meet. A friend that recently took over my bosses business said that at the last WPB show his net was about $200.00 for 22 hours of work between Fri set-up, Sat and Sun show and tear down. NOT including driving time. I think it works out to less than minimum wage when driving is included. Believe me, the profits made from the post Obama boom do not make up for the pre and post Obama F'd up economy. The only reason he does it is for the occasional good deal he sees walking the isle and the ability to write off a concealed carry gun and a little ammo/range time each month. |
No, I was gonna head to it this morning but got a call from a buddy around noon saying he had an extra ticket for the Bucs/Cowboys Game last night in Tampa, and that kinda took over the day lol. With any luck I'll be able to make it today , but still unclear as the wife wants to go to Orlando to go shopping for the MIL
