Hell-o Florida,,,,, if I'm from another state,
Does the Florida CW I received in the mail supposed to say Non Resident. ?? I saw a guy at a shop today and he said he was from NH, and he was buying a handgun !! Can anybody explain to me about buying with a non resident license,,,, I always though you couldn't buy if you are not a resident. Thanks in advanced. |

If you are a non-resident, you cannot take possession of a handgun from any state other than your home state. You can purchase the handgun but the dealer is required to ship it to the FFL in your home state for transfer to you. You must be legally able to own the handgun in your home state i.e. high cap mags etc. In some cases that's true for long guns as well. BATF advises dealers to call when a non-resident is interested in purchasing a long in order to determine if the sale is permissible due to the convoluted laws in various states. All bets are off for California, out of state dealers have to be registered with the California DOJ to be able to ship guns to a California dealer. Few are willing to put up with the bureaucracy. There is no 'license' in Florida. If you are a FL resident and have a FL CWP all it does for you in regards to purchases is release you from the 3 day waiting period. In other words a FL resident with a CWP can buy a handgun cash & carry. A non-resident CWP holder has no advantage other than being able to carry a concealed weapon in FL and other states that recognize the non-resident FL CWP. Again to be clear, if you are a non-resident you cannot take possession of a handgun from a dealer -OR- a private seller. You can purchase it, but it must be shipped to an FFL dealer in your state of residence for subsequent transfer to you. |
