Nice hat! Sorry we missed you.
We got there @ 9:AM and ran through 2000+ rounds in the Mac/Uzi and LWRC while doing a lot of long range shooting w/the .308's THANK YOU Apricot for letting us pound your steel target out there on the edge. I still think I hit it more than once with the Uzi! I've been known to hit the bowling pins out at 200m with the Uzi and, yes, it does require a full mag. 2 and a half rounds into it we were too hot and out of machine gun ammo so packed up and bolted. |

Left mid way into the third match, so may have missed your visit. Hope the guys went easy on ya. You need a thick skin to hang with that group. I left about 11:30 and didn't have time to take a look. Maybe next time. Who's the RO for that match? On another note . I failed miserably at the grapefruit shoot. With irons in .308 I did better than .223. Hitting the mark 3 out of 10 shots off hand. But then again most of my shooting is at IPSC targets and I dbl tap them to neutralize. From looking at the target though hitting the A zone @50 yards with all 10 shots off hand would not have been a problem. On the other hand I had no trouble hitting clay's at 25 yards with the 1911. Maybe I should have used the .45 to do the grapefruit shoot Good to see you guy's hope ya'll be back next month |

It's all good. I needed some time to sight in my Grendel. It has been a labor of love, heartache, frustration, and $$$$, but I finally have a nice rifle put together for a little long-range fun. I'm already thinking about a scope upgrade. After all the headaches, I was reminded of the immortal words of Dr. Evil Ben: "Why didn't you just buy an OBR?" See you guys there next month. |
|
Just so you know: The OBR was CRUSHIN' Apricot's steel at 200m...all 20 rounds in the mag popping it with ease at 8X.
We're thinking of going 12-14X on the OBR and going bigger on Jr's Remy 700 SPS Tactical albeit he hit just about whatever he aimed it at, even nailing an 'unaimed' 100 yard shot from the shoulder where he didn't use the scope just pointed the rifle where he felt it should be. I do this with the SMG's but I have a few rounds with which to walk it in. That 100 yard shot of his was amazing. |

I was beating the dog shit out of it at 100 with just the irons on my AR10 |

Am I the only going this week? I believe the 200m range is only open on the 3rd or 4th Saturday of the month. Check the calender on HSC's website, it will say when it's open. It may be available for members more frequently, maybe someone who is can chime in. |

That's when Ben started beating the shit out of it with the OBR. I need to take a pic of the steel. As it looks well used now. I'm fairly sure the 200 line is closed until next month. 100 should be up and operating though. |

Reminds of the time I popped a running chipmunk with my Daisy Red Ryder at 20 feet with a hip shot. Nailed that sucker right in the head. I'm thinking of the Leupold Mark 4 LR/T M1 4.5-14X Illum. TMR for my Grendel. Thoughts? I just can't swing a Nightforce, USO, or S&B. |

I have a Leupold 3-8X on the OBR (yes, I saw the set-up in their brochure and had to have it) but as clear as it is and as well as it works, it's a little under powered. But we've purchased a few Burris Extreme Tactical 1-4X tubes, the bigger one for the Remy and the Leupold for my OBR recently only because I couldn't justify the price difference between them and the top line glass. With modern manufacturing methods, the lesser expensive glass is catching up and the cost/benefit is really becoming about bling over necessary performance and durability. That's just my opinion but I'll be damned if I"m putting $2-3000 into a scope in this economy. |

Ok then. Anyone want to join me at the 100 yard range? I ain't gonna get a chance to go shooting much more before I'm off into the Army. What day, and what time? And is Dade City closer for you (it is for me...) Try not to support Dade City's anti-machine gun bs...how dare they keep me from exercising my right to dump mags? It's plink...wait...plink...wait...plink....wait there as they don't want even the semi's shooting too fast. For real they're very nice people but come on with the slow fire range. That and it's in a hole so it's hot as hell in the summer. MJ and i went there a month ago and I wasn't really impressed. Of more interest for 'us' all: I'm ordering some LaRue steel targets and getting Jr an MGM steel 'hostage' target for his 15th, we'll see if I can get it all in time for the Aug 200. Apricot, you can ding 'em up all you want. Eraser, I don't want pissy little Grendel dings in my new steels... Reef, You won't listen no matter what I say...but I'm bringing an extra case of clays just for you next month. Thanks again for lettin' the boys have the tannernite. |

I understand where you're coming from re: the F/A ban. But it's their range, and their rules, and overall I like the people and the range. I might sing a different tune if I had full auto toys to play with. As it is, they allow rapid fire, charge a reasonable fee for as much time as I want to shoot, and are closer to my home. If they only allowed Airsoft I could see the point in boycotting them. OK, then I'll bring my .338 Lapua and put nice little round holes in your precious steel... (Just kidding. I've been on the fence about getting a .338. But the ammo is so freakin' expensive.) Aw heck, I'll probably just get an AR-30 in .300 Win Mag. That'll still ring steel a long way away.I'm actually pretty much done with the Grendel. I've got some parts and pieces to sell. I know it's a cool cartridge, but I've pretty much decided that it was an experiment that just didn't work for me. An expensive experiment.... |

I want to shoot it with irons in .308
