Hello Florida People, I've got a buddy who lives in FL and is interested in taking a beginner's handgun class. He'd like something that is fairly low speed at first so he can get things down, then something that progresses into a defensive course. I did a little looking, but didn't really find any courses. Who would y'all recommend taking a class from? Thanks in advance. |

Randy Cain's Handgun 101 in Lakeland.

Randy is a great instructor and this is a good class. |

As an NRA instructor, I recommend he takes either the NRA First Steps Pistol or the NRA Basic Pistol Orientation courses. Both are very slow easy paced classes that are usually ran in a relaxed atmosphere that lets them realy learn and absorb the instruction given. Most importantly, either of the two courses place a high emphasis on safety. He'll learn how to safely handle, shoot, clean, & store the handgun.
Good Luck, Ernie |

Florida is a big place. What city is he near? He lives in Saint Petersburg but also has family in Sarasota so he's not opposed to something around either area. Thanks guys. What's all covered in the NRA Class? Any being offered around the above two cities? |

Huge +1 Randy comes to Southern Exposure (great range) in Lakeland several times a year. I've taken his Handgun and Carbine 101 courses, and they are perfect for the beginner who wants to get up to speed, or for the experienced shooter who's gotten sloppy with the fundamentals and needs a tuneup. Also check out Bushido Tactical in Orlando. Wade is a very good instructor, and he offers a basic handgun course. I've taken a lot of courses with Bushido Tactical and found all of them to be well worth the $$. |
