Hey Guys,

just a quick post to find a little info

i'm visiting the Orlando area first 2 weeks of march and as part of the deal me and the Mrs want to spend a day or so shooting.
I'm already planning on a visit to spikes tactical and was just wondering what would be the best shops/ranges to visit?
we're hoping to do some pistol and rifle shooting if we can and i'll be bringing my AR with me.

also any idea for places to visit?, other than the usual tourist atractions
and of course recomendations for the best steak house in the area

Best steak house is hands-down Del Frisco's, but sadly it's not the most conveniently located.  Best BBQ is the brisket at 4 Rivers (I wouldn't miss that were I you ), and best creative food with best beer list is probably The Ravenous Pig, but make reservations.

For steak I would take Charlies over Del Frisco's.  Do not miss the Ravenous Pig, it is the best place in Orlando.  The best beer list in Orlando is Red Light Red Light, it was voted in the top 10 us beer bars (they serve no food).

can you legally bring your AR over? Enjoy your stay and see if you can rent some full auto toys

I've put the paperwork into the BATF just got to wait for their reply,
i dont see why i wouldnt be allowed,
i'm pretty sure my ar15 in .223 is alot less dangerous than my .338 lapua rifle, as our AR15's arent allowed to seemi-auto to start with.
we cant have the hole drilled in the barrel or gas parts, so we have them modified with Right Handed cocking levers.
if interested see the UK HTF and look at the pictures thread

I was over there in 1996 and the Brits treated me quite well. I might be able to return the favor with a range day when you're here, if we can work out the logistics. I have a pretty flexible schedule and belong to a nice range about 30 minutes north of Orlando, where I'm allowed two guests per day. I also have a small selection of firearms that are considered evil in GB.

PM me when you get here. I'm about an hour north east of Orlando(Daytona Beach area). I would be more than happy to take ya'll to the club's range I belong to. We can have up to 5 guest per member per day.

Sorry I do not own any F/A's yet but I will see if I can get a couple of friends that do to join in.

My roommate in college worked at Charlies for 3 years (2 years at the OBT location, 1 yr at International Drive), and TRUST me you don't want to eat that steak.  Unless of course you are a huge fan of meat tenderizer and have a loooong book to read on the crapper.  If that's the case then you're golden.  One of the few steak places where I've had more than one "photo finish" to make it home to the lavatory.

RP is awesome, and you are spot-on with the reco for Redlight Redlight, that's the best bar in Orlando!  The owners are good friends, I've know Teege & Brent since the days they were above Dexter's in WP.

How does this sound to people?

Lets Arrange a day of it?
get a few like minded people together for a days shooting,
followed by a meal and a couple of drinks at a place to be decided

Federal law prohibits anyone who is not a US Citizen, permanent resident alien or a visa holder with a US hunting license to posses firearms or ammunition in the United States. There are VERY few exceptions. Being on holiday isn't one of them. Leave your rifle at home b/c you will not be able to obtain ammo for it in the US. Anyone who provides you ammunition and or a firearm will be committing a federal felony.

There are exceptions, for non imigrant aliens visiting the USA for temporary import of firearms and amunition
and a licence will be granted by the BATF which lasts for 12 months, providing i still meet with the conditions set.
providing i fulfill the requirements there is no problem, my paperwork is with them for approval.
if they do deny my application, i will leave my rifle at home

Trust me the last thing i want to do is break any laws and either loose my rifle, end up in jail or ruin the holiday for me and the wife

Just leave it at home. You'll encounter a lot less bullshit that way, and probably save some money on luggage fees. Are you going anywhere besides Orlando? If you're going to be around South Florida, I can arrange some proper AR shooting for you.

From one Brit (well for about 2 more weeks) to another, just leave it at home. Way less hassle. If you got stopped by a cop and tried to explain the law you'll end up in a cell for a night at least, and if he's an arsehole - a lot longer.

Just leave it at home.

Why you'd want to bring it I have no idea, the guns here are much more fun.

Check out East Orange Shooting Sports just outside of Orlando. Indoor range, about 50 feet for pistol about 25 yards for rifle. They rent all kind of guns. One rental fee allows you to switch as much as you want. Many times when I have been in there, there are running groups of brits through a "tour".

If you can hook with someone at an outdoor range, that would be best, but the option above would be a good fallback.
