| I'll be moving to Florida from Arizona around the end of the month. I'll be working on Patrick AFB as a private contractor. I'd be happy to get any good or bad info on the area. Any advice on home rentals, areas to avoid, school info etc. etc. I'm looking forward to the move and woudl appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance ladies and gents. |

She meant Cocoa Beach. Cocoa...you don't really want to go there. Likewise, you don't want to live in Cape Canaveral or Palm Bay. Viera, between Melbourne & Rockledge is pretty nice and close to PAFB. If you want the beach, Satellite Beach, Indian Harbour Beach, Indialantic & Melbourne Beach are pretty nice. Don't break ANY traffic laws, though. The beach towns practice vigorous enforcement. The schools around Viera are pretty good, as are the beach side schools. |

you can still have some space in canaveral groves. people still shoot their guns out there. other then that Palm Bay. Really all of Brevard county looks really run down. Not to be a doom and gloomer but its not the nicest area. |

I no longer live there, but I work there and have for the last 18 years, all over the county. Brevard boomed, and is currently in the middle of BUST. The Space Program is tanking with the end of the shuttle, the housing bust is in full swing, the entire county and most of the cities are circling the toilet. As mentioned, most of the beachside is ok, some beach areas are really nice. The inland cities are suffering. Palm bay sucks, Cocoa and Titusville aren't much better. Melborne is old, has some solid big businesses and has some really nice areas. It also has some shitholes. Viera is new, for the most part, and ass deep in retired military. Grant /Valkeria area is within reach of Patrick, and more of the 5-10 acre country ranchettes, and some old florida areas. Mims/Scottsmoor is similar, with more of a good o' boy redneck and Pick-up truck flavor. Merrit Island has a lot of up scale areas, and the center of it is probably as urban as it gets in Brevard. The whole county is a hodgepodge, some very nice areas, with very nice people, and some unbelievable loonie filled shitholes. You'll just have to spend some time aquiring local knowledge before you can decide where to live. The bright side is, you should be able to easily find a nice place to rent cheap.
Several ranges, one in Malabar(south), one in Titusville, which I have shot at, and is ok, but run by FUDD's, and a reportedly very nice indoor range at the Police Hall of Fame in Titusville. I haven't been there, but close friends have nothing but good to say about it..Handful of gun shops, no real stand outs. No big box sporting goods stores other than a hated Dicks in Melborne. Thats my opinionm, I could be wrong....
