this is for a friend, him and his cousin own a boat, but the motor will not run, i think its a mercury 200. anyway one person wanted 100 bucks to take a look at it, do you know anyone reliable that does free estimates?  they basically want to know if the engine is worth fixing or not. the boat is in Hollywood. or if not free, cheaper than $100.  ill pass along any suggestions to him, so dade and broward i would think would be what hes looking for. its sitting on a trailer at the moment. i dont have anymore details.

That's a fair price for someone knowledgeable and experienced to come out and spend an hour  with it.

That is a fair price... here in Jax it's about 75 to 100 for someone to look at it. Most of them will count that fee towards the labor if you get it fixed by them.

ETA: This prevents someone from getting advice on what to replace and then not having the mech do the work.

cheapest way is to buy the aftermarket repair manual for the motor.  go to the diagnostic/trouble shooting section and work through the issue. the only way to own a boat "cheaply" is to acquire the knowledge to fix it yourself.

ill mention it to him, him and his cousin own it. but i think they were fixing it up to sell. I know my friend is strapped for cash, dont know about his cousin. from my understanding the people that sold them the boat said it was easily fixed, but they are not sure.

If he's strapped for cash like I am he better learn to do his own repairs.
