Hey All. I just took a new job which will have me relocating to Orlando this week. I am already a FL resident however I am not familiar with this city.

I need range suggestions, transfer and FFL suggestions and oh yeah, Where should I NOT live? I will want to be in a safe area for my daughter and will be renting probably a 2 bed apartment.

Oh and perhaps I should move into Alan Graysons district just to vote that Mutha F OUT!

TIA, Joe

Be careful on 528 and I-4 at night. Try not to hit any deer, turkey, or bears....lol

Where are you going to be working at ? The location of employment can help deciding on a particular area to live in. There are lots of nice areas and several to be avoided around orlando. Drive Traffic may also help in where you decide to live.

I will be working in Holden Heights. Just east of Millenium Mall and south of I-4.  I know that area sucks as per my drive through. I don't mind a commute.

If you are working in Holden Heights, then look at the Conway area to live. South of Michigan, east of Orange Ave.

For outdoor member range, CFRPC will be fairly close.

For indoor daily use range and retail store, East Orange Shooting Sports.

If you can avoid I4, do it at all costs.  While improvments have made traffic a little better, it's still pretty much a nightmare during rush hour.

That's a tough area to find anything close that's decent.  I would look seriously to the north.....Apopka area, or west out near Ocoee.  There's some "back roads" you can take from either to avoid I-4.  Both have really nice areas if you look.  If you really don't mind a 45min or so commute, you could even look at Southern Lake County.....lots of farmland and open spaces.  Remember, if you go Apopka area, you're right down the street from Spikes

I plan on being a regular at Spikes.

So far my intuition is telling me Maitland, Altamonte, Winter Park maybe.
Please remember I'd rather commute then deal with undesirables within close reach of my haome, and Thanks Again ARfcommers.

If you want free FFL transfers( still have to pay the $5 FDLE fee), Tactical Machining in deland does them. They also handled 2 of my Silencer transfers free of charge as well. It's a little drive from Orlando, but worth it if you buy a lot on the net. I also own 2 rifles made from their lowers, very good stuff.

All of this is a good idea (if your wallet can stand it).

Those are nice cities to live in, I grew up in Winter Springs. The only problem you will face is a shiity drive to and from work down I-4.

Ok So upon speaking with someone during last nights festivities I earned that the 10 miles from Altamonte to Orlando takes an hour!

This is no good. When I say commute I actually mean Driving, on a highway, at highway speed.

I did here some very good things about Ocoee. I was told the Turnpike moves along and that the living in that town is nice and laid back, almost "Bohemian".

What say the collective?

There are nice areas in Ocoee, Winter Garden and Clermont. The Turnpike is under construction in that area, it sucks bad during rush hour but the construction is moving along well. Once it is done the drive will be much better. Hell I will take the drive now with the construction over having to drive on I-4. FYI the tolls suck on the turnpike, 429, 408 and the 417 get a Sunpass.

Holdem, this seems to be working very well. During my first week I was able to commute on Hoffner to Orange then Holden in under 15 minutes without breaking 50 MPH.

I will look for an apartment in this area for sure.

Glad to hear. Check out Camden Reserve at the corner of Lake Margaret and Dixie Belle. I lived there for 5 years, 1999-2004, before I bought my house. I now live about 2 miles away and still drive by there regularly. It was a good place when I was there.

It looks clean and is on my short list. I am also happy to see that the Wally World right down the street has twice the ammo stock as my old one in New Port Richey.

Funny, I was in that Wal-Mart today. I am very well stocked on ammo, but I wanted to see what they had. How things have changed in the last 3-4 months. They had everything. There was not a bare spot on the shelf. Even had lots of .380. Weird to have walked out without getting any ammo and only getting cat food.
