| Business trip coming up, anything worth checking out while there? I have never been to FL before. |
|
Where are you staying and what interests you?
Dinner: Check out Mizner Park, East Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach or the Town Center Mall area. Breakfast: I like the Water Colors Restaurant in the Bridge Hotel at Camino Real and A1A. It's outdoors and on the Inlet. Nice boat watching. Beaches: Any beach in Boca (Palmetto Park Road @ A1A is easy and has a pavilion.) Or go down to the Deerfield Pier - they have restaurants and nice scenery. Fishing trips: Search Deerfield or Boca Raton. There should be plenty of them and sailing/boat fun especially around Deerfield or up in Boynton. Night life: East Atlantic in Delray (Boston's on the Beach), City Place in West Palm Beach, Las Olas in Ft. Lauderdale or Key Biscayne in Miami - I think it's called Bayside near the port of Miami. Touristy boat tours of the area, dinner, shopping, etc. Day trip to the Keys: Head down to Key Largo. You can do it in a day and it has some resemblance of life in the Keys. Sight seeing of nice houses: Go to Royal Palm (Camino Real at the Intracoastal) Drive past the guards and enjoy the view. (They won't stop you, just smile and wave - seriously) Also in the same area is the Estate Section located south of Camino Real between the Intracoastal and A1A. Really nice houses. A drive north or south on A1A is always enjoyable. Just go until you get tired and turn around. |
| Go south to Hillsboro Blvd (just inside the Broward County line) then go allllll the way out west to the Everglades. You can take an airboat ride through the Glades with a guide that will explain how they formed and what wildlife you're likely to see (gators, snakes, kites, cranes, dillos, etc). Their website has a link to get directions and a discount ride coupon. Or, you can forgo the airboat ride and drive up into the Everglades yourself for a little exploration on your own. |

You might also find people watching and a mojito or two worth the drive to South Beach in Miami. Try the News Cafe for a good view. |

If you do the airboat thing stay away from the "cattle boat tours" 30-40 person boats ... stay with the guy at the link above (I might know that guy?) or shoot me a IM if your going to be here over a weekend. Also if you venture to the Delray Beach area just don't turn north or south off Atlantic Ave between I-95 and Swinton Ave and you will be fine. ETA .. That is the guy with the "cattle boats"

leave the "Raton" off and just call it "Boca".
Sound like a local and not a tourista...lol. All in all it is a nice area with lots of fine places to dine. I am on the other coast so I dont have any specifics. I would have to ask just like you if I was going. Our company is on that coast so we have plenty of people who can point me in the right direction if need be. |

Thanks for the replies. I will be in training classes Mon-Thur during regular hours, so day trips are out. I am staying at the Hilton Suites so I get free full breakfast , and my training class provides lunch. That leaves me with $40 for dinner each night on the company credit card, so lets focus on dinner. |

Eat like a local.............. The Whale's Rib, Deerfield Beach http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g34176-d511378-Reviews-The_Whale_s_Rib-Deerfield_Beach_Florida.html |

There is a fish place in the plaza you are staying in. Probably expensive and I have never been there. For more of a selection drive east on Glades Road (which is the main road you will be on). You will hit Town Center Mall that has Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, Magianno's, Stir Crazy, Chili's, etc. A little farther east you'll find Glades Plaza which has Bruzzi's, Hooter's and Moe's. And just over I-95, on Glades Road is University Commons which has a Barnes and Noble, PF Chang's and J Alexanders. Everything is right in that area.
The Whales Rib or Boston's is you best bet if you want food, beer, beach and scenery. Boston's is north on A1A. The Whales Rib is south on A1A. Either one is about the same distance. |

I work in Boca Raton.....if you want to go shooting, the Delray Shooting Center has subguns to rent (MP5, UZI, Colt SMG). A 10 minute drive from Boca Raton. As do I. My advice stay in your air conditioned hotel room & order room service. Or if you must go out, hang by the pool. Too much traffic, & too damn hot. |

+1 for Brewzzi's. Then hop across the plaza to Coldstone for some overpriced ice cream, if there's any room left. Quoted: There is a fish place in the plaza you are staying in. Max's grill (OUTSTANDING) in Mizner has a very good Creme Brule pie with a high end menu
http://www.maxsgrille.com/home.htm Screw coldstone's crap, go for ice cream parlor across from mizner called Sloan's, looks like you are inside willie wonka factory http://www.miznerpark.com/dining-entertainment/sloans If you want to venture to Neiman Marcus in the Town Center mall in Boca they have a good restaurant but again it is in the mall and not everyone is into that. If you like sushi, Blue Fin Sushi and Thai off Yamato is good and has a killer lobster bomb roll that isn't raw. At least it was good when I worked around the corner. 861 Northwest 51st Street Boca Raton, FL 33431-4465 (561) 981-8986 I am not into chains and am a total foodie so sorry but the Whale Rib is not good food IMO and don't take that as an example of good seafood in Florida. |

I'm friends with the owner of Bluefin, love their sashimi and their lobster bomb is rivaled only by Lemon-grass's Lobster Monster......been to Max's many times, always a great meal, the duck tacos rock...Sloans malted milk-ball ice cream is insane....I don't eat at department stores regardless of the food quality....and you're out of your fucking mind regarding the Whales Rib. Sometimes cargo shorts, flip-flops and a t-shirt for incredible lobster bisque, a plate of rock shrimp and a (mind bogglingly delicious) Key West sandwich trumps culinary perfection. |
