"Ralph, My neighbor is a "lefty" of sorts (Obama bumper stickers, gung-ho socialized medicine, "guns should be banned", etc.). So a couple months ago I put this sign up in my yard after one of his anti-gun rants at a neighborhood cocktail party.

The sign wasn't up more than an hour before he called the police and wanted them to make me take down the sign.

Fortunately, the officer politely informed him that it was not their job to take such action without a court order and that he had to file a complaint "downtown" first, which would be reviewed by the city attorney to see if it violated any city, county, or state ordinances, which if there was a violation a court order would be sent to the offending party (me) to "remove the sign in seven days".

After several weeks he was informed that the sign was legal (by a quarter of an inch) and there was nothing the city could do, which obviously made him madder.

I tried to smooth things over by inviting him to go shooting with me and my friends at the hunt club but that seemed to make him even more angry. I then asked him if he wanted to go to a Tea Party rally but again he declined my outreach efforts to bring about a better understanding between political and social opponents.

I am at a loss how to reconcile our long relationship (notice I did not say friendship), any suggestions would be welcome. "

You could always tell him, let me win your heart and mind or I'll burn your hut down...

Why would he be offended by a blue box and a white question mark?

Have a new neighbor and have started talking with him.  He's going to be
a handful, especially when he started going off on Bush and Iraq, all
the libtard hot topics.  Asked if I had seen any of Michael Moore's
flicks. He only knew of Fahrenheit 9/11... knew nothing about Roger
& Me, Bowling for Columbine, or any of the others.
Why are we spending all the tax dollars in Iraq?  Why are we in
Afghanistan?  Why aren't people more compassionate with the health-care
since it is a right... ok, then.
I think the guy has a good heart.  He fishes with his son and lets him
shoot a competition air rifle in the back yard at my 25M E silhouettes .
However, he kinda freaked out when I told him I reloaded my own ammo.  Going to ask him to go shooting this weekend.

My neighbors freaked out when I walked out into my front yard with a M1 Garand.... I was in my WWII 2nd Infantry Uniform at the time and I was participating in the local veteran's day parade.... but they could not understand why someone would own a weapon of war..... They yelled at me saying that such things should be illegal and that no man should have combat equipment. I simply brushed them off as being a bunch of old cranky folks. But then again they're an old German Couple in their mid-nineties. Maybe my M1 Garand and M43 Field Uniform reminded them of home. They're lucky they haven't seen me in my 197th Soviet Guard Division impression..... They partook in the taking of Berlin.

I am happy to live where I do. My neighbor across the street routinely carries his revolver tucked in his waist band openly. We have been in the front of my house talking about guns, hunting, etc. while playing with my AR. He liked it but said he prefers his "ol m1 carbine". Korean vet, him and Clint Eastwood could be related.

Sorry to have such a crappy neighbor but it is funnier then hell how you are handling it. good for you!!

I'm lucky the only bad neighbor I have is the one to the right of my house (if you're looking at my front door)... He's a paranoid schizophrenic and can be delusional at times. Likes to scream at bushes and scream all kinds of obscenities and racial slurs. The first couple years we lived here I learned a few new words.

Man, some people have it bad!

I have a cop for a neighbor on the east side, and a general contractor who hunts in his spare time to my west.  No one across the street and no other neighbors close enough to care about.

The next closest neighbor is a fireman, and the next closest to that is another contractor.
