Heading to the range next Thursday to site in my new Spikes. It will be my first opportunity to fire it so I'm really looking forward to it. It also is my first AR. Never been to that range but am going with a buddy who uses the 1000 yd. range there with his AR 10 ( shoots 500 - 600 ). Going to site in the irons (50yd zero ) and then try to use the cheap red dot I bought to see if I like it.
Specs:
Spike's Tactical 16" M4 CL CHF Upper (5.56)
Spike's Tactical Lower, Machined from a 7075 T6 Mil-Spec Forging with Mil-Spec Type III Hardcoat Anodized finish.
Spike's Tactical Carbine Rail
GG&G flip up rear iron
Truglo red dot

Pretty cool range, friendly people. I've been there a few times and enjoyed it.

I figured on a Thursday it wouldn't be too crowded in the morning and I can take my time and do my site in right. I'd also like to put at least 100 rounds through it to make sure every thing functions well and I can check several mags.

Just looking at some aerial views of that range looks awesome.

Congrats on the new gun.

I'm a member there and so far it has been great, especially the 1000 yd section.

I've only been boresighting last few months, and I need to get over to just plink.

Was it google maps?

I wish I lived closer to Manatee County. The farthest range within reasonable driving distance is 100 yards.

I RSO there sometimes.  Used to be your experience may vary drastically depending on who was RSOing, but its becoming a little stricter and more leveled out.  Still my favorite range in the area.

FYI, incase you didn't know, the beam next to the pistol range is about 65-75 yards depending on how recently it was reworked.  I meet far too many people who put their targets there thinking that they are shooting at 50 yards.

There's a little grassless hump in the ground at 50. I don't remember, though, if it's 50 yards or meters.

It's been a few months since I was there, if the section you guys are referencing about was on the far right of that small section of the range. The last time that I lazed that hump backstop was 84 yds to the dirt. Would this be the same area, or at the far right?

Far right is the pistol range(or its called that).  Then there is a berm between the 565 yard range and this "pistol range"  Used to be about 65 yards, then it was dug out and reformed and was at 75ish yards.  As I said, it will vary depending on when it was redone.

However 84 yards seems a little long to me.  I don't recall it ever being that long.

The ground isn't really marked any more, but there is a sort of lump, then a shell line at 25 yards.  The shell line for 50 is long gone, but the bump remains as Manevitch stated.

I ought to go out there and put down a couple of small stakes to mark the distances.

I plan to use a 50yd zero so I guess I can pace it off. I don't have a range finder. I also plan on shooting 100yds. and 200yds just to check zero. Thanks for all the info. If anyone happens to be there Thursday AM stop and say Hello. The only way I won't be there if its raining hard.
     Thanks again

I am a member and also a range officer.

There is a 50 yd marker in front of the 65 yd berm.  You will be able to see it.
