The appy was laproscopic at least I hope! I got mine done the old fashioned way (full cut) but lap/apps weren't developed yet back then. I feel for you with the coughing, though. Thats a bitch! Get better quick, we're all rooting for ya! Yeah, it was Lap style surgery. The only problem was the appendix wasnt in the normal spot. It was up and behind my intestine. it took 2 hrs for the surgery. Also the person who inserted the tube down my esophogus, made hamburger meat out of my throat and uvula. My uvula is unusually large anyway, but now im having to spray numbing spray back there to keep from gagging on it. It is swollen up 3 times larger than normal. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers |

Are you still in the hospital? I had to have mine removed too, I was laid up in the hospital for over a week. Nothing but liquids and IV pain meds for the first few days. If you had surgery Saturday I'm surprised you're sober and posting on ARFCOM on Monday ![]() Best part about my surgery? I woke up in the middle of it, freaked the whole operating room out when I tried to free my arms and yank the tube out of my throat, all I saw my my nurses eyes get big and someone screaming "put him out, put him out!" lol ![]() |

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers Ouch... yeah that sucks too. Hope you are doing better by now. I know exactly what you are talking about with the vent damage. (I work on a surgery floor at my part-time night job, which is why I'm up and posting stuff at 3am... its slow right now) Good luck with everything! |
Thank you to everyone for the prayers and the well wishes. Yesterday I had a chest X-ray to determine what condition my lungs are in. The staff at the hospital didn't give me the incentive spirometer until I left the hospital I have been using it, but my Sis is a RN and she told me I should have been on it as soon as I recovered from he anesthesia. I'm sure I will recover from this, but right now my stomach feels like someone has used it for a punching bag .

Hey bud. Hope you are feeling better by now. I had to stay in a week in November 2005 for an appendectomy that had ruptured. It wasn't any fun to sit there...that is for sure!
I've got two more big surgeries coming up, the doozie being on my ticker. As I type this my grandfather is in ICU because he got pnuemonia and then picked up MRSA at the hospital. So my sister and I were discussing MRSA, staph, C Diff, and all the other fun things people seem to be catching in hospitals or hosptial like enviroments. We couldn't think of anyone we have known that went to the hospital that didn't come out with something. My sister and I included. I got MRSA after getting pnuemonia and my sister got C Diff after going in for dehydration/foodpoisoning. The MRSA is what damaged my heart, which necessitates the surgery on it. Why am I telling you all this? Well, you need to make sure that the nurses and docs use gloves while they are tending to you. Especially, with your wound and when changing IV/meds. I would think you know that already, but be be adamant about it and pay attention to make sure. Tell them that you want to use a product, called Muprocin, to ward off staph or other infections in your nose, etc. That is what they gave me to help eradicated the staph months after I had gotten better, but I was still carrying it around. They will probably protest, about giving it to you, but tell them that you are concerned about having the pneumonia leaving you suceptible to respiratory ailments, but particularly staph. It might be a stretch to get it, but it is worth asking/demanding. Just tell them that A LOT of people have been picking up staph in hospitals, which is 1000% true, and there is no reason to not be extra careful considering you have had trauma (the incision site) as well as pneumonia. And I know it hurts but get on that damn breathing excercise blower contraption. USE IT. It helps keep you from getting pnuemonia. You have to understand that you only exchange about 20% of your lung capacity with every breath. If you are sedentary that figure gets lower and lower. Well.....the air that is just sitting stagnantly at the bottom of your lungs harbor bacteria (airborne obviously) which eventually will get hold of some lung tissue. Trust me. You don't want that to happen. If you don't mind me asking, what type of anti-biotic are they giving your for your appy and your pnuemonia? Did I read that you already have pnuemonia? You can PM me if you would like instead of posting it here. I just want to see you do well and get the treatment that you or anyone else deserve as a patient. Plus we can't loose anyone else that is Pro-Gun
Prayers are coming your way. I'll be checking back here to see if I got a PM or you have repled. If I don't talk to you again, take care of yourself. |

My primary care Physician thinks i have pneumonia. She sent me to get chest X-Rays yesterday. She also had bloodwork done (i assume to check for staph) I didnt have to fast for the blood work. The meds im taking is Ceftin for the antibiotic. The pain meds are Lortab and Ultracet. Im having to take 600Mg of advil to keep down the fever. Even taking the advil im still running a fever through the night for a few hours. Nothing like sweating your tail off and still not being able to keep warm. They swabbed my nostris before the surgery to check for staph, im sure it didnt turn up anything. Thanks for your wisdom and kind words, Ill be getting some answers today when i see my primary care doctor at 12pm. |
