I just moved into a new condo and had to change from Brighthouse Cable/Internet to Comcast cable. I can get Verizon FIOS instead but you pay for Comcast Basic cable anyway (possibly, haven't gotten final word yet). I was wondering how people like it or if I should pony up the cash to get FIOS and have my landlord completely cancel the Comcast (pretty sure he can). Figured what better place to ask than here on ARFcom? |

Threads like this help reinforce my decision to stay with DSL.
Realistically, how can you possibly expect Comcast to be able to provide reliable high speed internet when they've spent all that money in advertising their reliable high speed internet? I have Comcast for basic cable, which sucks, because in our market they keep pulling channels. I would now have to get a converter box to watch the History Channel. I've got five old TVs. I don't plan on renting five converter boxes. I'd switch to dish, but I doubt it's any better. |
| You dont get much worse than Comcast when it comes to customer support. Service isnt that great, and when it drops it can take forever to get someone out that can actually figure out the real problem. the longest I went was more than two weeks with no service and fighting with them daily. |
| Guys DIRECTV is by far the best in cable/satellite.....secondly DSL (ATT)...When I had comcast it was down almost weekly and then when it was rainy season it was on and off until rainy season was over.........poor service overall, missed appointments and it seemed like they had a price increase a couple of times a year? |

I hat comcast with a passion. Its always one randome outage after another. Either the internet shuts off or I lose a channel randomly. The best is when the picture goes out then comes back with no sound. You will love the random line up changes, you thought your favorite channel was 43 nope we changed to 143, now we didnkt tell you cause we have your money and you suck. Hey you want to use our niffty on demand service? Well go kill youself cause it never works and we don't care. God forbid if you want to downlaod anything cause we cab throttle you connection or just crash it from our office, so go ahead and try to transfer that file. So I would say go with Fios if given the option. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Wwynter, You are pretty close. I am on the south side of the Villages. (Fruitland Park)
I have Comcast. No major complaints. I had dish. When we moved into our new house could not get a signal whatsoever. Cancelled dish and was due a refund. Guess what, No Refunds. Offered a credit. I guess they wanted me to look at the screen that says signal strength for a month. That was 10 years ago. |

Looks like it depends on where you live. I live in Orange Park, Florida (Outside Jacksonville) and mine is up 24/7 with very few exceptions. Mine will literally go for months with no outage and then when it's out, it will only be for a few minutes.
The only extended outages I had was twice in the last 3 years where my cable modem died (once due to a nearby lightning strike). I was only down a couple hours because a 24 hr Walmart is around the corner and they sell the exact same cable modem that comcast uses. Those are the only 2 times I had to call customer service. The 1st time, no problem. The guy was articulate, easygoing, helpful....I'd give him an A+. The last time it was obvious the guy didn't give a crap. Mumbled his directions to me. Then turned out he missed a step and we had to start all over. But he got me up and running. I'd give him a C. I had Bellsouth DSL years ago and it was slower and went down often. Maybe they're better now, but I've no reason to switch from Comcast. |

From what has been said here and from other people I talked to pretty sure Fios is going to be for us. I had Brighthouse before and absoultely loved it, never a problem in over 3 years, didn't lose service once. Always loved it when friends would talk about all the channels they got with DirectTV. I'd always call em up during the usual summer thunderstorms and brag about it, was best when I could do that during Sunday Football hahaha.
Wish I could still have Brighthouse. |
| I also have Comcast (TV only) and used to have them for internet but had too many service interuptions and DSL is much cheaper. I've had DirecTV and won't do that again either. When FIOS is available I'll probably switch to that assuming the cost is similar to cable. Comcast is always trying to get me to do their 'high speed internet bundle"...last time I talked to them I told them that my cable goes out periodicaly but my phone/dsl never does so no deal. |
wtf?
