I have been living in a new place for a little while now that is backed up to a woodline so i have a lot of bugs around, especially at night when lights are on. Now i dont have a huge problem in the house but when we first got here there were small bugs popping up on the carpet when we would wake up, a couple scorpions and just random bugs.
I have bug service through a company here and they have been really good to deal with, and had to come out probably 6 times in the begininng to get everything straight. There policy is they come out once every 4 months and spray outside the house, it takes them like 5 minutes and they leave. Im not bashing them at all, if i called them right now they would come and spray free of charge but now that times are getting a little tight for me im looking for bills to cut. I was also told by them that i have palmetto bugs in my attic, which they squared away, even though i saw one last night actually. Really all they are doing is spraying around the house every 4 months, which i feel like i could do, but it is good to know that i can call them at anytime, especially if those palmetto/roaches breakout or something. My question is, while there services have worked for me (honestly not as good as i would like) can i just do this on my own? You can buy that home defense stuff from walmart by the gallon and just spray yourself, or are they using some high speed chemicals? I do have more bugs then normal like i said because of the woods, what do you guys do? |

You can buy commercial permethrin. Generally runs around $100 for a jug that makes 100 gallons. You can get all the good stuff here. http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/ You can use one of the Ortho hose end dial-a-spray sprayers. Dump the chemical in, set the the dose on the dial according to the package directions and just spray the entire perimeter 20-30 feet away from the house and from the foundation to the soffet. You'll have to wash the windows afterwards. It will take care of it all, then inside the house, use a small pump sprayer and spray the same permethrin around all the baseboards, thresholds and crevices. It's low odor and pet safe. |

I would say yes, I do it
spray the perimeter of house every week for a month about 6" out from wall to the wall . It will stop a lot of the roaches and ants. But I would look to the bottom of the doors; in Florida you need a rubber wipe (seal) on the bottom of the door this will stop them from coming inside under the doors, like any space under the door will allow the roaches (palmetto bugs) to get in
