My parents are vacationing to Europe and decided to wait till the last minute to buy Euro Currency.

Anyone know locally where they can buy Euros in the Tampa area.

Thanks

They have foreign exchange kiosk booths at the airport...

US cash exchange into foreign currency - vice versa -

Two suggestions here, as one who's done a lot of traveling, and just converted a lot of savings into Rubles.

1) Shop around. There are exchange places at the airport, but you pay a premium for using them. If they've got time, hit up a couple of banks, see who's going to give you the best rate.

2) In general (And fairly specifically with Euros) you're probably going to get a better exchange rate at your destination. If you don't have time to hit the banks here, buy enough to get you through the first day or so, then hit a few banks at your destination.

I was raped by one of those exchange booths in Heathrow, they always give you a crap exchange rate.

Can they just use their credit cards? Some of those have crazy exchange rates or fees too, but my AMEX card is OK.

You can buy currency online too.

I'd buy just enough for the first day myself and then do the exchange in Europe. I want to say I even used an ATM over there, but its been 5 years, so don't hold me to it. I used my CC's mainly for everything without a problem.

Call your credit card company to let them know that you will be in Europe so your card won't be declined. I also give them the dates that I will be there. Most large towns will have exchange shops that will give you much better rates ( for US cash) than the airports.

I have to Europe about four or five time per year.  It will be much better for your parents to wait until they get there and use an ATM.  The exchange rate will be near real time and the transaction fee will be much less than a kiosk.  Just take enough for the first couple of hours (a little snack and a cab ride)

Where are your parents going?
