Yup.  I was installing a muzzle brake & felt it snap.  You know how big burly guys like me have to be careful with such things.

Holy crap - same thing happened to a guy I know with a WOA SPR barrel . . .was getting the Ops Inc Muzzle Brake installed and bam - snapped the little nub right off . . .

That really sucks Chuck . . .can you call Noveske and see if he'll replace it?

I just sent the pic with a plea.   I'm hoping they can repin it.  If not, I guess I'll have it chopped, rechambered & reextensioned and use it for the SBR?  I don't know.

That sucks,, Hope they can fix it. Something about the pins looks
funny. I mean, the way it looks grainy where it broke.

The right machinist can replace that. Ceramic diamond bits can take any metal out I don't care if its tungsten carbide it can be removed.

I'd have to check a barrel extension at the shop to be sure but I think the pin hole may go all the way through. If so, it's a matter of removing the barrel extension and just driving the pin thru, reinstalling the extension & installing a new pin. I presume you didn't have the barrel clamped in a vise and you were holding the receiver instead?

Grain structure of the pin looks like it was overly brittle.

Precisely.  But the "vise" was just putting the stock between my feet.  I wasn't applying a whole lot of torque, either. I was putting the brake on to determine which shim setup I was going to have to use.

A call to Noveske cannot hurt.  All of my interactions with them have been very positive.   Worst case scenario, they say no and you are back to having it drilled out.  Best case, they cross ship.  Who knows?

Be thankful the pin broke and not the rear of the receiver. A field expedient method, as in, no other choice, is to take a 3/4" open end wrench and hook it thru the front sight assuming you have a std. front sight. Worst case is you'll cant the sight. I'll try to remember to check the barrel extension that I have. Next step will be to find a pin and someone with a barrel extension wrench. A witness mark will need to be scribed into the barrel & extension so once it's removed, it can be reinstalled to the same spot. You barrel nut must have been pretty loose if it took so little effort to break the pin.

I just called and spoke to Joel, who was very cool and didn't even laugh at me.
He said, "No big deal.  That happens when people do that sometimes. You cover shipping, we'll drill it out and pound a new one in for you."

I'll let you know how it goes.

I received the barrel back from Noveske.   They drilled the old pin out & tapped a new one in.

They even blasted it again to remove all the surface scrapes & scratches.  They sent it back to me on thier dime, and threw in a sticker with the firebreathing pig logo on it.

$0.00 How awesome is that!

A few bux in customer service goes a LONG ways!  Seeing this kind of stuff makes you not second guess a purchase from them!

I would post a +1 in General and link them.  That kind of customer service is what directs me (and others here, I'm sure) to companies like that over their competitors.  Good job Noveske.
