New member here.  I've been in Miami for about a year, but I grew up in East Tennessee and was in Texas for the last 5 or 6 years.  Shooting was a little different in those places, because I always knew someone who had property and we could shoot in a less formal atmosphere.  I'm used to range discipline; I was a machine gunner and later security forces in the USMC Reserves, and spent a year in Guantanamo Bay after 9/11, but in my opinion nothing beats taking something like a watermelon out into a field and blasting it.  In the alternative, do you guys know of any aquatic ranges that use manatees as moving targets?  My reflexes aren't what they used to be, so a slow animal is just the ticket.

thanks!

Manatees are mammals FYI. That wasn't even a cool attempt at a joke unless you were being serious... then that is worse.

good luck with those reflexes.

Born in Miami, but moved to Knoxville when I was 2, then to Austin for law school around 2001, visited Cuba where I saw lots of banana_rats, tooled around Austin for about a year after graduating, then came back "home."  Most of my family is here or close by.

And Vanessa, yes, they're mammals.  I learned that when I hand fed them at Seaquarium Summer Camp when I was a tyke.  What can I say, humor is subjective; we're on different wavelengths, but I don't think it's that big of a deal.

p.s.  I love whales, and would never do anything to harm one, but one of the funniest bumper stickers I've ever seen had a friendly looking picture of a whale spouting water that said "Save the Whales........... TIL WE GET MORE TARTAR SAUCE!!"  But I digress, i forgot that the internet is serious business.

I grew up just outside of Knoxville.  For what its worth I knew the Manatee subject was a joke, some people just need to lighten up.  If we killed all of the manatees I wouldn't be able to use them for ski ramps.

Yeah, I don't know.  It's kind of a funny subject around here.  I just always thought it was weird that it became such a rallying point.  I'm not anti-environmental or anything, I just enjoy tasteless jokes.

I'm actually planning on buying a save the manatees license plate because I expect my dad's reaction will be hilarious.  If it was just a bumper sticker he could rip it off like he's done to bumper stickers on his boss's car he doesn't like, but he can't take away my license plate, and he'll have to see it all the time.

And make sure you have plenty of bald eagle feathers to cushion your landing from those ski jumps; I'll be on the beach cooking a breakfast of burrowing owl sausage served with a side of leatherback turtle eggs over easy.

You just joined and we don't know if and when you are joking, so using some of the smilies might help tell how we should read some of your comments.

A couple of other things to keep in mind: when you make jokes, try them not to be about illegal activities (shooting Manatee, etc)

Your father should reconsider ripping decals off cars -unless they are his boss's car and they have an understanding to let your father do that. Otherwise, it is destruction of private property, another illegal act.

Jokes are fine, but we don't need the liability of criminal acts, no matter how funny they might sound to you

Other than that: welcome to the site

Point taken on shooting endangered animals.  As far as the bumper sticker, yeah, it's limited to his boss, no he doesn't have her permission, but they've been friends since he tried cases with her to get her board certified as a civil trial attorney back in the early 80s when she was a junior attorney at his firm.  Now she owns a mediation business and he's one of her mediators; they have a very strange relationship, but it would be the same thing as defacing your brother or sister's car.

But for those of you who didn't understand my post, let me say it now, and say it clearly:  The anecdote regarding my father was in no way, shape, or form an instruction for any of you to go around defacing other people's property.  Leave those bumper stickers alone... especially if they say "Save the Whales til we get more tartar sauce!"

and EdAvila, I may have accidentally reported you when I meant to reply.  I post on two other forums and the reply button is in the bottom right.  I personally hate smilies, but what the heck:
