Hey all - im movin on over to Otown to get another degree - this time at UCF. I have found one range on all the lists - East Orange in Winterpark.

If you guys could suggest some alternatives. The closer to UCF the better, but im willing to drive for a good range too. So if you could help me out and tell me your favorite places to shoot in the orlando area i would really appreciate it.

Thanks all!!

Welcome to Orlando and UCF.  I'm a UCF alumni and used to reside in the East Orlando/UCF area, now in Lake Mary.  As far as ranges, Shoot Straight in Casselberry is about 20 min from UCF.  Good indoor range, pistol and rifle (25 yds).  Also check out Seminole County Gun and Archery Association (SCGAA) in Sanford.  Its out on SR 46, about half an hour from UCF.  Private range, $100ish a year for a membership.  One Sunday a month its open to the public and free.  Hope this helps.

The Chuluota Sportsman's Club range in Oveido is close to your area, and the membership is reasonable.

Although I am closer to East Orange I refuse to go there, as do many other shooters I have run into. The guys at East Orange quite often have an attitude that some of us dont take well to.

I have had a couple of experiences there just talking to employees-while looking at guns that will keep me from ever giving them a cent of my money.

There are some good ranges, one is in Geneva-it is a members only club but the first sunday of every month it is open to the public.

I used to have a membership to Shoot Straigh in Apopka(and Casselberry) and it was nice until the prices went up. I often buy my handguns there because once they know you they start giving you good deals.

Good luck w/ the degree I am just finishing up with Accounting.

What are you looking to shoot and what are you planning to shoot?

If you want to do target shoot. One shot every few seconds then just about any range will do.

But if you shoot full auto that is going to limit the ranges.
If you want to shoot rapid fire, that too will limit your ranges.
If you want to shoot jugs or anything other than paper targets or clays it will also limit your ranges.

The Sanford Range allows just about anything. Check the web sites. Some will state "No Rapid Firing (5 shot maximum)" or "No Automatic or auto-burst firearms (Class 3)". The only downside for this range is a 300 yard max range, but it is one of the few ranges that has a true plinking range. Here you can shoot jugs, tables, trash cans,  or just about any wood or plastic items.

Like I said, it all depends on what you want to shoot. This range does have a "Public Day" the first Sunday of each month. (They don't allow full-autos on Public Day.)

Chuluota has berm space for non-paper targets (no metal closer than 40 yards, and no exploding targets), does not allow full-auto but is OK with controlled rapid fire.

I shoot the scary black rifle there often, and have had no problems.  I've seen some SKS', AKs, and some other ARs there.  I've never had a close encounter of the fudd kind there.

I shoot IDPA sometimes with the guy who owns or runs that place.

As soon as you accept the fact that he came down from heaven on a beam of sunlight for the benefit of the shooting world and mankind in general, you get along with him just fine!

I can see where his attitude could rub off on his employees.

I am a member of flssa as well, but that's not the club site.

This is the CSC site: http://www.chuluotasportsmensclub.com/

It's $125 a year for membership.  Good group of folks.

Welcome to Orlando, a veritable "Shooters Paradise". I am a member of the "Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club" located off of Narcoossee Rd, near the airport. We are a private, members only club except when it comes to our "sanctioned" matches. We have IDPA, Hi-Power miliatary rifle, SASS, Muzzleloading, Silhouette and a variety of other disciplines. All of our "matches" are open to the public, unless specified not so and that is rarely. Check out our website at www.cfrpc.com for match dates and times. Anyone interested in joining, the club meeting is the first Monday of the month, 8:00pm at the clubhouse. We have a 50 meter pistol range, 100 meter rifle pistol range, 300 meter rifle range, plinking range (sorry, no tables allowed)and an extensive action range. Class 3 fire is not allowed, sorry guys. Check our schedule and you might want to come out and try your hand at High Power or IDPA. Now, if you're into "smokepoles", come see me on the third Sunday.

I second the Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club.  I'm a member as well.  Good range with good people.

I'm a UCF Almuni as well.
As already stated, it all depends on what you want to shoot.
Central Florida Rifle and Pistol is a nice outdoor range but it doesn't allow full auto which I enjoy the most so I joined www.scgaa.org/ like JThompson.
I used to shoot at East Orange when I was in college and knew the guy that originally opened it up and it was a great place to shoot back then.  I know he sold the range and I don't know who runs it now.
The Chuluota range is probably the closet outdoor range to UCF but it is rather small.

Im at colonial and goldenrod so im close and i will definately drop a PM when i do decide on when im gonna go. I will be officially moved in by this friday so ill be looking to shoot in the next few weeks.

Thanks again!!

East Orange is under new ownership and is getting very black rifle friendly.

CFRPC is a great range with some of the best attended USPSA monthly matches in the US.
