Woohoo I was getting ready to go to Tampa International to go to Chicago. Return flight was Wednesday afternoon. Don't think so. Looks like it is going right between me and Osprey21's house :) Gas is at 2.73 a gal right now. There are lines at every station. Peoplle filling up 5 gasllons cans everywhere. Oh gawd, our refineries got wet. Better raise gas prices..... I got ammo Coleman Fuel Stoves and lanterns canned food. Fermented corn products :) Bring it on. Raise my insurance rates will ya ??!!! |

After experiencing the brunt of Charley with one child and a 9-month pregnant wife huddled in the bathroom, the moaning of the building under the wind, the gas system alarms going off all over the complex, and the low pressure in the air, 4 flat-tires, no electricity or water for over a week, having to move in w/ my parents, and helping w/ cleanup all over Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Arcadia, and Pine Island and seeing the damage and people effected in each of these place, this sends chills down my spine... AGAIN. Though we have all the water and food necessary to keep us for a month, cash on hand, cans of Fix-a-Flat, batteries, etc., I'm still not happy about this. Kinda depressing really. I remember when I thought going through a Hurricane would be "fun"... until I actually experienced an actual hit. Good luck all and pray this thing keeps moving around in the Gulf while staying away from all of us! |

Uh yeah new orleans, gas, generators, and all the rest of that jive. Just as long as my SOCOM 16 gets here before that freaking himicane does i'll be fine. I'm hoping this thing comes. I've had a ton of gas from last season i'd like to use and we could do with some panic stricken sales at work. Katrina had us busier than christmas J |
how could we forget? they won't let us. Discovery channels been running Katrina nonsense practically all week, and the local media is adding to the hype with all the 'Katrina style destruction- what could happen if Lake Os dykes fail, etc...' BS. Well so far at least Im slightly outside the cone of probability. best of luck and best wishes for yall west coasties.. EDIT- dammit.. well I was slightly outside the magical cone of guessingness... |
Hopefully that doesn't mean we have to talk about it for a year, make ourselves leeches on society, and expect the .gov to pay our rent, feed our families, give us Visa cards, etc. For the love of God I think I'm gonna puke if I see another Katrina special on the TV schedule. I'm all for helping out in the event of a disaster, but it's sickening how peoples' generosity has been taken advantage of.I just met a guy at a concert who is just finishing rebuilding his home in Daytona after Charlie or one of those storms destroyed it. That was two years ago. He wasn't whining about the .gov not doing enough either. He actually picked himself up by the bootstraps. |

NASA just announced HurCon IV (TS force winds within 72 hours). Decision to roll back the Shuttle will be made later today. Hopefully, nothing more than a few down tree limbs will happen, but maybe it'll give the talking heads something else to natter about than than katrina and new orleans. |
Gee Thanks d-t. Now it's headed smack over the middle of my house. I'm so thrilled. ![]() Generator.....Check Shutters ..........Check Food & Water ....... Check Meds & First Aid ........Check Vehicles and Gas Cans ......Check Flashlights and Batteries ...... Check Valium for the wife ............. Open Issue |

Does not look like it will make it to a hurricane till it gets to West Palm. That's great news for us here in the Miami area. And by it pushing east more and more it just makes it better for all of us. The gas lines are already started. I have seen lines as long as 1 hour and the stores are starting to run low on certain items. Im just going to chalk this up to another bad week for work and call the guys in for the hurricane party! Be safe all, and remember to report in after its past. If anyone needs anything or help, please post! |
It depends. We haven't ever lost power for an extended period, but last year we had friends w/o power for one to several weeks. It really just depends on how contained the damage is. The year before last when Charlie and friends came through my understanding is that there was a shortage of supplies since things were being diverted further south where the bulk of the damage was. I know somebody out at the north generator station. I'll try to get in touch with him and see how they're prepped for this season. |
|
Filled all the tanks for the generator (The $75 limit the gas stations put on the prepays suck! Made for a 4 card stop)- stocked in some beer and perishables - the rest of the preps have been done for quite a while. Went through Charlie - and theses things just depress the Punta Gorda / Pt Charlotte area like you wouldn't believe. Everyone is just a little more on edge than they were before the weekend. Seems pretty unsure as to where it wants to head though. If anyone in the area needs a hand if we get rocked - let me know. Lots of tools and a John Deere at my disposal. |
I agree Todd. I still remember what Charley did to the roof of where you work. |
thats what confuzzles me. all the weather folks are saying that too, since when does this shit grow stronger over land? Everything I seem to recall from the past involved constsnt weakening whilst travelling overland, and strenghten whilst over open waters. thus I thought by the time it got to west palm it should be little more than a gentle breeze and a mild rain, no? |
|
Is it me or does this radar show this thing going almost dead west? radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=BYX&product=N0Z&overlay=11101111&loop=yes |
wow. talk about a BOGGY site. With my puter and modem net and that thing was still bogging. But your right, its moved over some on the other maps. Crap!
