With the election coming up, I just wanted to submit for the consideration of other District 34 residents my comments on Representative David Mealor. Several months back, a local media outlet (WFTV) decided it would be a good idea to publish the name, address, and date of birth of every CCW holder in Central Florida. Among the people I wrote to about this flagrant abuse of public records was Rep. Mealor. Within literally 15 minutes, I had heard back from his office. Rep. Mealor was very concerned, and initiated action with his colleague Dennis Baxley that lead to the introduction and passage of HB 687, which made the personal information of CCW holders exempt from public disclosure. Rep. Mealor is an 'A' rated candidate by the NRA, and has a history of supporting the rights of gun owners. Please note, I am not affiliated with his - or anyone else's - campaign, but thought I would share my experience for the consideration of other Florida voters. I'll certainly be voting for him. Matt |
