Working dog or pet...or both? How much room do you have? Have you had a Lab before? Why Chocolate? How much are you willing to pay? What kind of guarantee do you expect? Are you serious about obedience training this dog? Lots and lots of questions. I recommend contacting "muddydog" here on the forums if you are looking for a working Lab prospect, and I would not be so picky about color myself. Chocs tend to have more skin issues than yellows or my favorites, the blacks, but good chocolates are certainly out there. Pretty much never would I even consider buying from a newspaper-add type breeder, although not all of them are bad...and once you actually go and hold a cute pup you will be toast, so only go and look at really GOOD pups! Research the breeders first! JMO after a lifetime of both fun and heartbreak with Labs and GSDs. |
| +1 on what Ikor said , but you could also check the American Kennel Club website(www.akc.com, i think) and you might be able to find a list of breeders, or contact them and they can point you in the right direction.....personally avoid any puppies r' us type places....90% of them are puppy mill which are bad. |

I'm looking for a pet. My neighbor had a yellow one and it was nice and calm pet! He had to put him down a year ago because of cancer. His sons birthday is comming up and I wanted to get him a new replacement. I checked with his parents and they said it was OK with them and that he always wanted a chocolate! He love my rotty and the feeling is mutual but I know that he want a new buddy! There are a few in the newspapers but the prices don't seem right and the parents are not on site to see??????? I've never been steered wrong on this forum board and value it's memebers opinions! Thanks |

Call your local vets office and ask if they know anybody who's giving away or giving up a chocolate lab. A lot of people move and can't take their pets with them. I'm sure they would love to give them to a loving home... better than giving them up to local animal shelter that will give them the big needle |

Chocs have a little differnet temperment than Blacks and Yellows. As with any Lab - if you get a pup, they have about a 2 year puppyhood (chewing and acting like idioits) till they calm down. Look for a Lab Rescue in yoiur area. Here is one for SoFla: www.geocities.com/sflabrescue/ |
