I test fired my ambi RBT a couple days ago and I ran into a issue where I couldn't pull the trigger to drop the hammer sometimes. From what I gather they fit rather sloppily in HK housings so I'm guessing when I switch between positions I'm rocking the trigger pack enough that the locking bar isn't being depressed to the proper point of letting the hammer drop. I'm confident that shimming the pack to prevent the rocking will fix the issue. It was fun letting off bursts of subsonics with a suppressor though. |

Shim the shelf to keep the lower tight to the upper, if there any slop the bolt wont catch and reset the trigger. |

No shelf (well not a large one anyway) on my Zenith era MKE gun. I'll be placing shims inside the housing to prevent the pack from rocking forward and possibly raise the entire pack up a smidgen if there is enough wiggle room. |

No you will need a new trip lever I put mine in a 53 and the trip blocked the carriers path as its slightly different than the left side of a mp5 carrier All it needs is a new lever though. Not that big of a thing for someone to make or atleast thats the way it appears to me |

I have a PTR 9KT on order and don't know a whole lot about mp5 clones, but I'm building this thing out before it even gets here. Stock, suppressor, locking piece all ordered. Will the non ambi (SEF) drop in these or will there be issues? |

Take your PTR out and run a few hundred rounds through it before you change anything and certainly before you SBR it. Several users have purchased MP5 pistols and SBR’d them without even firing a shot. (Not just PTRs but any gun.) I had a PTR that I would not have sold had I known FRTs were only a few months away. BUT I had issues with the gun in the first few mags. PTR sent a paid shipping label and had the repaired gun back in my hands in a couple of weeks. (Much better service than I got when my new POF full sized MP5 had issues, or my replacement MP5K clone AP5-P had a problem.) The PTR was awesome after it was repaired and I would still have it had FRTs been available. I think they replaced the barrel. That would have been a big deal if I had already had it engraved, and decided I wasn’t happy with it. Their customer service (a couple of years ago) was first rate. Sorry for the thread derail. |

Got the ambi installed in my AP5P clone. First two mags were problematic. Each time I shot a short burst the trigger would lock up and had to cycle the action to get it to shoot again. I sprayed the gun down with CLP and went back to my range and did not have any more issues. The first two mags I was using some bulk remanufactured crap ammo. After that I used some 124 grain factory ammo. Prior to the Rare Breed I had one of the super safety 3D printed units on it. While it worked great, I did not feel it was robust enough for long term usage. |

Thanks for the advice. I plan on SBR'ing it but I'm not in that big of a rush to get all that done. |

The 1/16" Dog Screw that has to be removed in order the lift the Trip Bar to install the Ejector Bar. Already had a stripped out Allen head. So Rare Breed is supposed to be sending me a replacement Dog Screw. In hopes I can epoxy a allen wrench into the on that is in it. If it isn't over torqued in to much and get it removed. So I wanted to see what others could tell me they found on what looked like a possible future issue. |

Just put the rd3 ambi in my ap5-p navy lower and i had to use a nickel as a shim under the front of the trigger in the housing because there was too much tilt/play and the bolt carrier wasn’t able to hit the locking bar to even do a function test. After shim it function tested good and so far just ran one mag of AE 147gr through it real quick no problems. |

See if you can find a Torx bit that will fit. Works as a good extraction tool for stripped Allen heads. |
| Finally had a chance to fire with the FRT, and need to figure out where the issue lies. Dry firing the trigger is smooth as butter in both positions, with a chambered round it acts as if the safety is engaged until you get to around 45lbs pull weight, then it will fire. AP5-SD with B&T SD barrel for reference. |

After disassembling the gun, I think I have the same issue as Aphex posted above. I cut some shims from a pellegrino bottle and the fit is much tighter. I dont have any snap caps, but the hammer drops fine now on empty brass. I'll shoot it again in the morning and see if that fixes the issue. *EDIT Shot flawlessly today, 200rds down the pipe without a hiccup. Shooting a steel challenge next weekend. |

I needed to shim my AP5SD Navy Lower as well - cut a section out of a plastic 22LR box. Left it big enough to friction fit, and sanded it a bit to get the right amount of shim. Ran great and was a blast on steel. When I used my MKE SEF lower on the AP5SD, no shim was needed. So it appears to be a MKE Navy tolerance issue, easily remedied. |

| From reading posts on shooters that are having issues with the MP5 Rare Breed, I think it’s only an issue with Non-HK trigger housings. I’ve installed two Rare Breed MP5 triggers in Factory HK housings and they ran with zero issues. |

I’ve installed two Rare Breed MP5 triggers in Factory HK housings and they ran with zero issues. Not true in my case. I am using a legit HK 4 pos ambi housing on a Zenith era MKE and still had a couple "dead trigger" moments. I have shimmed mine since then and plan on hitting the range tomorrow to see if it reoccurs. Edit: Range day went perfect no further dead trigger issues after shimming. |
|
Maybe we could try to narrow down the issue. Has anyone had to shim the SEF trigger? It seems like a lot of reports are about the ambi model. I’ve installed two Rare Breed SEF models in factory HK housings. One housing was purchased used, installed in a POF full size MP5. No issues. For my K sized AP5-P I got a housing from HK Parts that seems to have been a factory second. User reviews said that the housings needed a lot of “fitting”. That’s unusual for an H&K trigger housing unless your gun is a little out of spec, right? I had to file the front and rear pin holes a lot to get it to fit. It’s still really tight. I have to tap the pins in/out with a mallet. If anything was going to give me a problem I would have thought this one would. Nope. Runs like a top. So, my score: Two SEF triggers, two HK housings, no shims needed. |

I had to file the slot on my HK trigger housing to not bind up on mine. Push Pins were removable by hand afterwards. |

I had to open the gap between the front holes where the pin goes through. I also had to open the slot for the denial block on the back of the mag release. These were factory HK MP5 Ambi housings |
