Ok you guys that have done the USC to UMP conversion, How much did it cost. I mean how much including the USC and the conversion. For you that have done .40 is it the extra 900 bucks worth it? I havent ever really been into HK guns but all of my pistols are in .40 and I reload that caliber. Something about having a SMG that shoots 180grn federal HST's has me Interested. Ive got a pretty good size bonus coming from work in december and may be putting this into buying a USC. thanks for the info guys.

Finding a USC might be interesting - saw one on gunbroker for $2900.  Then add about $1700 in parts. Plus Mags.

My UMP project was about $3,200 by the time you add transfer fees, sales tax, shipping the barrel to ADCO, etc. I used all HK German parts but I know you can go with HDPS parts to save some $$$ (if you prefer).

You might consider buying someone else's UMP project that maybe they have fallen out-of-love with, and be cheaper/quicker. If not, Tom Bostic is the man to talk to about having USC work done. Good guy and quality/cost ratio is fantastic!

WOW! My USC was $1,400 when I bought it- but then again HK was still making them. I don't recall there being $1700 in parts though. Unless you're including labor? Total for conversion parts that I see, is $900 @ HKParts. Semi UMP lower, lower pin, rear stub, German stock, stock pin... use original USC barrel... Am I forgetting parts?

My usc to ump was 3400 total after i sold of the 40s&w barrel and bcg "to recoup funds"... This also included the price for bostic to convert.

Next time H&K release a subgun, I'm buying one when they're still available.

OP,have you considered doing a roller locked in .40 S&W?  I have a full size, K-PDW, and just received a SD, but have not shot it yet.  Here is me shooting my K PDW with a .40 caliber MK9K:

The K PDW is so much more compact than the full size and the UMP.  The UMP certainly has more versatility, but since the OP is looking for this specific caliber a roller locked might be a better choice.  I have shot a UMP Post Sample, once.  It took less than a mag to tell that the roller locked gun shoots much smoother.  This is just my opinion.  YMMV.

My breakdown:

USC - 1750
UMP .40 kit (barrel, milled bolt, 1 mag) - 600
Stock - 95
HDPS Stock Block - 200
UMP lower - 250
UMP rails - 35
Dremel - 65
barrel cut/threading - 95 (from atwell tactical -fantastic work!!!!!!)

Total for conversion - 3090

I never pay more than $55/mag when they come up for sale. I do believe the .40 mags are easier to come by at a cheaper price than the 9 or 45. I have an additional 500 or so in an optic and mount, and forward grip.  Buying a dremel and doing the work myself was very satisfying and I learned a lot. It is pretty easy to do actually. I did not cut out the vents as that is something that I would want a pro to do. If you shop around .40 kits are pretty cheap right now at around 600 for a milled kit. I say go for it. I love my conversion and it is fun as hell. Everyone that shoots it, loves it.

My total was around 4k but that is with the 9mm conversion kit as well. I have a 40 bolt and am just waiting for a barrel to pop up so i can have all 3 calibers. I dont even shoot 40 though

Forgot to add, I sold off my .45 parts and got back around 400. so my actual total was closer to 2700 give or take.

It's been a while, but I'm probably $3500 into mine.  Made some money back selling off the .45 bolt, barrel and a pile of mags.  I like my $1200 MP5 clone better

For those thinking about making a UMP .40 or for those that already have, these guys have new mags for $39.95 each with  $10 shipping, or get 6 for $235 shipped. Great deal. I bought 6.

For me a couple years ago it was $1200 for the USC and around $500 in parts for the conversion. Only thing I didn't do was mill out the vent slots since I wasn't comfortable doing that myself, eventually I'll send the receiver to Tom Bostic to have it done.

These are also a good price, but their shipping cost is stupid:
