On a whim I ordered a Cetme kit and U.S. made barrel from Sarco with their free shipping offer.  The kit price including the barrel was $279ish which is a great deal imho. I had very little experience with this type of rifle but always seem to enjoy a good build so here I am.

Kit looked near unfired, wood is very crisp but dirty.  U.S. made barrel is no frills to be sure but it is fluted and went together ok. I couldn't justify the price for a flat bending jig so I purchased a PTR receiver for $250 and paid a $10 transfer fee.  It built up great, only modification was on the back end to get the stock assembly to seat up and the barrel pin holes needed relocating (both relating to the subtle differences in the Cetme and HK91).

I did the welding with a Lincoln SP135T mig set to D 7 on most of the work.

Barrel was a pain the the butt to get right as it kept jumping over the sweet spot on my press.  I finally got it to gap at .012"  The front sight was left loose for the test fire but I drilled and tapped the bottom for a set screw so I could adjust the cant of the triple frame and center the sights.  Once it was set, ground it flush and welded it and drilled the sling mount pin and pressed it home. After it was tested I finished all the exposed welds and added to paddle mag release as well as clipping and pinning the lower. Final finish is Brownells Alumahide II Grey Park which matched the original finish well enough.

As the U.S. made barrel has standard threading as opposed to factory threading I ordered an A2 style .308 flash suppressor off of Amazon along with a jamb nut crush washer to set it.

I already have several hundred rounds down range without issue.  Bolt gap has remained the same and it has decent accuracy.  I already ordered another kit for "spare parts" although there is a good chance it gets built too

Nice build. I bought my kit w/o barrel (G3A3) for 244 back in 04-05 so thats a steal that you got.

Good job!
And you tackled the paddle mag release.

I'd like to do that to mine, but rigged a push [east-west] paddle on mine.  Works so far.

No. I replicated all the factory welds from my parts kit. That area was not welded so I didn't bother.

Thanks. The paddle mag release makes a huge difference in shooting the rifle. No way to reach the button making reloads awkward. The paddle release makes it so much more enjoyable. I pretty much wallered out the denial block with a dremel, pinned the release and welded up a thin metal cap to cover the opening I made.
