| My issued MP5/40 has BHO, but we train as though they don't, like HK taught with the original 9mm. Tactical reload-lock bolt to the rear, swap mag, slap bolt fwd. Malfunction-lock bolt to the rear, mag off, work charging handle several times, lock bolt to the rear, new mag on, slap bolt fwd. Combat reload-even though bolt locks back, lock charging handle back, mag off, new mag on, slap bolt fwd. It's a lil slower than an AR15, but not by much if you practice enough. |

The only MP5 series weapons that locked one on the last round are the 10mm and .40 guns. IMO it's not needed since with just a bit of practice the MP5 reloads just as easily as the M16/9. this is probably the reason for the different responses i've found. again, there's no way to modify this thing? |

No, on the 40/10mm the receiver is actually designed for a BHO. I guess I shouldn't say NO, but not practically I'm sure, and then the 9mm mags aren't designed with a catch to trip the BHO. |

so they buy us these snazzy new MP5 subguns (-N i think). we've taken them to the range a few times for fam-fire but no qual or operator courses yet. i haven't had a chance to fire all of them yet but mine does not lock the bolt to the rear after the last round is fired. i've googled and looked here on arfcom and the best answer i can find is "some do, some don't."
is it supposed to do this? is there a mod to get the bolt to hold open after the last round (like an AR)? am i not holding my mouth right? am i fooked? thanks in advance. http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb175/aceleroy13/F4ED23C6-459D-4D8C-9AE8-8B99F7EE1862-3981-00000364C20915B8.jpg I have a funny feeling Phil Flack had something to do with those MP5's. |

the 9mm mags aren't designed with a catch to trip the BHO. A big impediment even if you could reengineer the gun for bolt hold open. Two words for the situation... tactical reload. Carry several mags and top off regularly. And even when you do a tactically reload, yer still gonna wanna lock bolt back to swap mags, which usually means kicking out a live round. With no BHO, unlike AR's, you don't wanna get in the habit of just mag out, new on, since you may have fired the last round and actually have an empty chamber, which is why HK teaches this method. |

| If you don't mind sharing, hootch, where do you work that they just bought a load of these subguns for a bunch of people who literally don't know the first thing about HK roller locking guns? Not your fault, but they should seriously invest in some training, manuals, something... |

Not your fault, but they should seriously invest in some training, manuals, something... i work for a local PD. we had very little say in the matter; we (the team) were of the persuasion of "we've got these ARs that we've trained with & used for years that work fine; if it isn't broke why fix it?" chief is old school and wanted subguns, so now we have more toys to play with. we just recently got them in brand spanking new; mine has a round count of around 500-600 now . they're setting up a basic subgun course for all of us to attend before we're operational with them; in the interim we're basically playing around with them after we're done on range days. the training is on the way, just not here yet. also the firearms were delivered faster than we expected IIRC; as this is the only 9mm platform we have the ammo order for them hasn't been filled yet either.

My agency let's patrol carry either AR's, MP5/40's, or shotguns. I chose the MP5, since it's a gun I would never be able to own on my own, and I already have 6 AR's. Plus ours are swing down lowers with the front pivot pin, so per ATF they are machine guns, except the agency supplies the FBI Safe and semi only lowers. But off duty and shooting it on my own it gets a full auto lower tossed on for fun |

Looking at the picture (thanks for taking it!), that looks like a standard MP5-F w/Navy trigger group. I don't see the threaded muzzle that the N-model is standard with, unless it's completely hidden with the foam. Also, an MP5-N would come with an MP5-N manual, AFAIK. It does have the Navy trigger group, though. Oh, and the top of the receiver will be marked MP5-N. Beautiful gun. It's interesting to see how they're packaged for shipment to police departments. |
