THis question is mainly for those of you residing in the great state of Texas (not Chili related, so calm down)...
I am looking to build an MP5 pistol and while looking around Gunbroker for parts, i dscovered a C2 mfg from Texas that is offering MP5 barreled receivers build on LSC flats and featuring original German parts on them. The manufacturer is TPM Outfitters out of Carrolton, TX. and they claim to be an Class II manufacturer and looking at the pictures, their offering looks real good, but I need someone local to reassure me before I drop the coin on it...
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=329579079 I really want to add an MP5 SBR to my collection and this looks good, but I want to be sure this is a good route to pursue before i make a move. Thank you. :) |

I have no experience with them. I dont like that they used what appears to be the number '5' for upside down for a 9.
Since we don't know what you'll pay for parts- I tried to do a little rough math, and using HKParts: SEF trigger group - $400 Aftermarket Wide Forearm - $15 RCM US BCG - $460 US A2 stock - $80 FFL Transfer $25 Shipping $25 Rear sight - $110 Add to that the $1,182 for the barreled receiver and I get $2,312. I know kits are hard to come by, so it is hard for me to say "Just buy a kit and send it to Jeff" but that is where I was coming from when I originally posted "for the same price you could have one built" |
| Thanks for the info so far. As long as I can get my hands on the barreled receiver, the rest, I can buy one piece at a time; the trick is to find an FBI trigger pack (and house it in a "clipped and pinned" burst pack); i am going for the MP5-N look. I already contacted him via phone; I want to get the barreled receiver, that way I don't have to worry about headspace issues if I buy just the welded up receiver, then the barrel and trunion separate. I know there are a few good HK smiths here in AZ, plu with the resources of HKPro, I am hoping this won't become a nightmare for me. |

It is my understanding, per my phone conversations with Jeff Walters, that it is better to headspace the barrel to the actual bolt you are using. I am not saying, per myself or Jeff, that you cannot simply drop a bolt in later, I was just told that when builtding my MP5 SD, he likes to have the bolt for the gun, so he can check clearances and set it within the spec from HK. |

I agree with what he says; its not an AR, so my main focus would be to get the receive,r then the bolt and have a competent smith make sure both are spaced up to HK spec. Thanks for the advice. |

All you need to check spacing are a set of feeler gauges. Swapping rollers out is easy. I wouldnt send it to a smith. Just know that you *MIGHT* not land within HKs spec (forget what it is off top of my head) and *MIGHT* have to adjust a few things. Im not a gunsmith. Take that for what it is worth. I just know when I have had all 3 of my CMPs done by Jeff, every time I send him the bolt and he has sent me back completed guns that are in spec.
Sounds to me like you're wanting to shop for deals along the way and pick up parts when you can. That is a good way to go. Check WTS forum on HKPro.com for deals. But don't pussyfoot around too long because stuff moves (or can move) fast over there. Not like Gunbroker where you have time to think about it. |

I'd engrave on the trigger housing part instead of the upper receiver. -_- Some people engrave it on the bottom rear portion of the receiver, below the trigger pack, right where the rear takedown pin goes. Would that place be an option? I don't think either of these are acceptable under current guidelines/rules. It must be the barrel or receiver. Also, since XX year, im pretty sure there's something in the regs abt the markings being visable without disassembly. |
