I'm going to start collecting parts for an MP5k PDW SBR. I see SP89/K flats on both HKparts and robertrtg. Is either one better, or are they the same?
Thanks in advance. EDIT TO ADD: I've been out of the scene for a while. Does anyone make a decent SP89 with 3-lug (I have a trident9 for it) these days? Last time I shopped, the only game in town was Coharie. I'm not opposed to buying a complete gun if it is of decent quality. I figured I was going to have to collect parts and have it built to get one in good functional/aesthetic shape. |

There is only one manufacturer of k-flats and that is Special Weapons. Some builders like Dakota Tactical/PCS are able to cut and modify a full size MP5 flat from LSC. While those two builders make some of the finest clones available (on par or better than factory HK) you are spending some serious money.
I just pickup up a SW5K upper through Black Market Parts and couldn't be happier ($685). It was a completed upper, painted, barreled, paddle release, cocking tube support...While the previous SW/Coharie arms MP5 had some issues, with their new laser welder, the welds are impressive as was the fit. Everything dropped into place. I was a little apprehensive about it being a SW product but took a chance after hearing about the completed upper with new welds....glad I did! |

I Just built a MP5SD on one and all RCM parts dropped right in. Welds look beautiful. |

Was thinking about getting one of these myself. There were some reports over at HKPRO that the initial run of these had some issues with the finish. Can I ask how the finish on yours was? |

I saw some photos with some serious paint bubbling/pocks but since I WAS going to send it in to have it parked and powdered, I wasn't too worried about it. When I received the upper and looked it over, there was no bubbling or runs. The finish appears to be even. While it is not in the same category as DakTac's park and powder finish, I can definitely live with it....and save at least $150!
If I had to pick the upper apart, it would be the cocking handle (replaced) and the mag/paddle release. The paddle release is not a anti rattle, roller tip. It does the job; locks up good, releases as designed but has alot of play to it. If that would be deal breaker, DJF on HKpro is selling the same BMP product with the some upgrades such as a anti rattle roller tip release......... |
