The new PTR pistols have caught my attention, after wanting a V-51 for no other reason than the cool factor. Here they are for reference.
Link to PTR PDW I was wondering if anyone bought/fondled one of these yet. I was thinking about sbr'ing down the road and thought of two things: 1.) What kind of wide handguard will replace the alloy one that comes with it? MP5 or HK51 (or are they the same, not sure) 2.) When big brother gives me the approval, will a HK91 collapsible stock work if I swap out the operating rods? Or would I have to buy one of the Vector V51 stocks? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I traded an XCR for a Vector V-51 earlier this year because I always thought they were cool and I'm keeping everything 308 now. You will most likely want to put a stock on it and go the SBR Tax Stamp route after you get it as pistol, if that helps you decide. It already had an aftermarket picatinny handguard with covers. i don't know the make but I like it because it allows more air to hit the barrel and will be perfect for a VFG. I put a receiver scope mount and red dot scope on it. i did not like the v-notch close quarters sight on the iron diopter, so I drilled the 400 yard hole into a ghost ring kinda deal and it was dead on at 25 yards.(liucky). After shooting it a few times it was combat accurate at 25yds with open and red dot sights standing, and kneeling. A little farther benched.I am a muscular guy with over 3 decades of shooting ALOT of firearms and shooting that pistol was like someone trying to hold onto their wifes hips after they called her another girl's name in bed. 35 of them were still in the sealed wrapper, a couple more were brand new without wrapper and the others were 9o %. With shipping they still worked out to $1.36 each. Go to HKPRO forum on the "CLONE" sub heading. You will have to learn about 'bolt gap' and other HK type nuances. It is like every other firearm on the internet. There are the fan boys, the people who say they are total shit and guys like me that got a good deal on a good shooter and are satisfied. Do I wish it had a bolt open on last shot? Yes. Does it get filthy in the receiver? Yes. Did it keep chugging along with all the different ammo I put in it when it was filthy? Yes. The complete bolt dis-assembly is weird until you do it a couple times. But field stripping is 2 pins out and the stock comes off. the receiver separates, and the bolt and carrier drops out. Spray Brake cleaner or other gunk cutter, wipe off, re-oil and go. Mega surplus and aftermarket parts are available. I believe some people said the PTR has issues with certain ammo, but I did not research it any deeper as it didn't concern me. Hope this helps. |

Oh don't worry, I already drink the Clone-Aid. I have a Bobcat Weapons MP5 clone that I sbr'ed about six years ago. Had problems with it doing FTF/FTEs so I sent it back and have had only two or three examples of the problem since then (a few thousand rounds). So I love that clone. I have an 18" PTR-91 that is a beautiful gun and flawless, better than most real HKs I see at shows. I also have a GSG MP5k that I sbr'ed for shits and giggles. What can I say, I love HKs but simple economics dictates what I purchase. These guns are new, available, and not astronomically expensive. So if its a clone, its a clone and I can live with it. And HK started mailing it in when they made PC-friendly designs like the USC and SL8. The stocks are horrendous. (I know they were developed during the ban, but that has been gone for a while now). Heckler and Kochophiles will still buy them for the name.
I understand simple economics, but apparently HK doesn't. The demand is here in the civilian market for their guns, but I guess they are happy to rest on their laurels and rely on their military/police contracts. Till then, put me down for another clone. |
