Hey guys,
I've been looking at getting some kind of pistol caliber carbine for awhile now and, while the Vector Uzi is pretty neat, I've recently been bitten by the HK bug. I never really considered the USC before due to the cost to convert it. I was recently made aware of a conversion for it to take M3 magazines, but I've only found 4 or 5 reports by people who use it and they basically all consist of "It works great". But I also read reports from people on HKPro doing "100% clones" of the USC to UMP saying how "bad" the M3 conversion is, but they never really elaborated. Now I really don't care how accurate of a UMP clone this USC would be. I want something that works, plain and simple. So what's the deal on the M3 conversions? Worth it or are they junk? |

They work pretty well from what I hear. The mag catch is CLOSER to where an AR15 mag release will be. It also uses 30 round Grease Gun mags, which will count as US made parts (not that it matters with all the other parts)
The Grease Gun mags dont have a bolt hold open device, but they are a THIRD of the price of HK mags, and are nice and durable from what I have heard. The UMP conversions will run about 1500 dollars of extra parts (not including barrel if you want to SBR) and there is a bit of work required, however its not THAT difficult. You can also buy them from HDPS ready-made and good to go. As far as performance issues, I have never really heard anything bad about the grease gun conversions. They dont look quite as nice and factory as the UMP conversions, but they are nice nonetheless. |

Hold open and aesthetics is a non issue.
Do the mags drop free? I'm guessing they don't, but it can't hurt to ask. Also, with the M3 conversion, is it pretty much drop in aside from widening the magazine slot in the upper receiver? And is there a "go to guy" for magazine slot widening or can it be done by any competent gunsmith? |

I have done several USC/UMP conversions. Best for holding their value is doing it the HK way. While the GG conversion works - I think there is some extra cutting of the receiver that will lower the value of the rifle and may prevent a future all HK update.
If you check - you can find the block for around $200, the FBI lower for $200-275 and a stock for around $200. Mods to the lower to make it fit - $50-75. Mod to the upper - $75 - $100. Check on HK Pro for more information. |

I just recently did this conversion and very happy with it. (esp if you're in a ban state, you can pretty much still acquire preban m3 grease gun mags The TN kit comes with detailed instructions and a diagram/ template of the area where to dremel in order to make the grease gun mags fit smoothly. Mine drops out quickly/ freely for reloading once mag catch is released. If you decide to do this, take your time with the lower. Take close up pics of the lower before you take out the parts, this would help a lot when putting everything back on the new lower. - Took mine to the range this weekend 4 mags full with no hiccups. Overall I'm very happy with the results. - BTW,An easy way to do the upper mod cut is to use the new lower mag well as a template and draw with a pencil( ETA: see pics) http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e8/knightenforcer/My%20rifles%20pistols%20and%20shotgun%20pics/CIMG6852.jpg - http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e8/knightenforcer/My%20rifles%20pistols%20and%20shotgun%20pics/CIMG6855.jpg - http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e8/knightenforcer/My%20rifles%20pistols%20and%20shotgun%20pics/CIMG6868.jpg - http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e8/knightenforcer/My%20rifles%20pistols%20and%20shotgun%20pics/CIMG6896.jpg Are you living in New york now? I thought that the threaded barrel pistols were in NY AWB... |

Not only are threaded barrels banned in Ny but folding stocks are as well!!!
I am hollding onto all of my Hk94s UZIs etc etc.Somehow making a FNC and G1 shrink with a folding/collapsing stock maks me feel evil. Now if i only could convert a HK94 to a 45 cal or 40 S&W
