So I want to put a fa pictogram lower on my bw5. Mine has a paddle mag release and maybe I am wrong but I can't see the "shelf" that I keep reading about that wont allow the lower to fit without clipping and pinning. Is it only visible when the housing is removed? What will I need to make it work?

The shelf is OBVIOUS when the grip-frame is removed.  As long as you get a "clipped-and-pinned" grip frame, you'll be fine.
