I just noticed this while cleaning, and am not sure if it has been this way since new, or indicates a problem is forming. Im not a an HK expert.

Looks like the trunnion has shifted or was assembled incorrectly? The welds on the rails do not contact the rear of the trunnion, the trunnion does not touch the rails, there is a gap there

Wouldn't worry about the trunnion & rail 'gap' but I would worry that the turnion has moved forward and the pin and hole do not line up.....that's some shoddy work.

well thats the part that concerns me. the tip of the trunnion is finished in black paint, and the reciever is finished, and I see the unfinished end of the trunnion. I doubt it was finished with that unpainted

Where the barrel attaches to the front sight piece, does that all line up with the cocking
tube? Would think that you would see some kind of shift there as well since the
cocking tube shouldn't move with it.

I would be very concerned about this. First of all do not shoot it until you get it looks at by an HK gunsmith as it does NOT appear normal or in spec at all. It does look like a clone Coharie/SW or BW clone. Give them a call and see if they will take a look at it and get that fixed.

i just checked, and was able to move the barrel/trunnion by hand in/out of the reciever

Yes it is a clone, the bulder will not be mentioned, I will give them the opportunity to fix it to my satistaction. I will be contacting the builder monday for a repair.

can the welds on the reciever be re done, or am I looking at a new reciever?

That's terrible.  Sure the welds can be re-done.  It's a shame the guy doesn't have much pride in his work to let something like that out.  That's too bad.  Good luck.

WOW, that's pretty bad.  Good luck on getting the gun fixed.  It looks like your trunion was welded in 1-2 places?

I have a gun that a certain board member here also welded the trunion in two places instead of 6-8 places.  And to top it off, the welds were filled in with stainless steel rod instead of carbon steel.  During parkerizing, the two welds did not tak to the park, which confirms stainless steel was used.

How many rounds did it take to end up like this?

I have one that I SBR'd but have only fired about 100 shots as a pistol.  This makes me worry that it'll blow up later and be a bigger PITA.

DEMAND a new gun if it's under warranty. Factory defect.  You wouldn't accept a $4k TV as a defect and have it repaired right?

Yikes!  you need to change the title to - BIG Trunnion Problem.

around 200 rds down the tube

there are 2 small welds near the cocking tube  and 2 larger welds halfway down the trunnion which both showed some cracking around the circumference. (4 total welds)

I had a similar thing happen to me. I had about 1/8" play in my barrel in either direction....NOT GOOD. It seems that the "armorer" (joke) that replaced the barrel in mine, machine fit (ground down) the barrel to the trunion instead of press fitting. Yours seems to be a bit different problem. either way... DO NOT SHOOT IT!! I had Ralph at RDTS fix mine and it turned out awesome. Good luck!!

Let us know how they handle it.

Was this a "factory" built clone gun?  (yes or no)
Or was this a clone receiver built up by a 3rd party smith?

Big problem.

Easily fixed.

Don't sweat it.

If you're worried, sell it to me!

It looks like a Toad Bailey Special. (Sue me) On the other hand, Vector had a bunch NFA UZIs that did the same thing. I have re-tigged one in my garage without even using a jig.
