I'm thinking about getting the Vector Arms .40 S&W SP89 Pistol and Form 1ing it to make an SBR. Or the Rifle version w/fake can as it's $75 cheaper and already has the stock. I could than remove the fake can after approval and hide the hole with an FH. Being an H&K noob, I had a few questions. I see they make an FH that fit the 3 lug barrel. Are these read ably available and do they work with the .40 cal? How do these handle the .40 compared to the original 9mm they were made for? Any durability problems? Other than the cool factor, are the semi-auto versions really worth 3 times more than a Ruger PC4 or PC9 rifle (no offense intended to true H&K fans). Thanks. |
 You can find about two pages of information on them on the whole internet (exageration, of course). You can go full auto with the MP5, which I doubt that you can do with a PC (Politically Correct) series rifle. Disclaimer: Yeah, a lot of that was just exagerations but you get my point. Edit: Oh, and the PC4 kicks too much... due to the standard blowback design. |
| If you got the F/S rifle and took the F/S off the hole where the pin was is so small that you wouldn't have to hide it with anything. As to reliability of the 40 it should hold up fine, but for the money I would go with the 9mm due to cheaper ammo and cheaper mags and replacement parts if ever needed. I sure that HK makes the 3 lug F/S for the 40 but all the 3 lug F/S are expensive. Mine is just straight off not much flash to suppress on a 9mm out of an 8 inch barrel |

Thanks for the info. guys. I was leaning towards the 9mm from Cohaire, but was informed the Vector was a better build. Unfortunately, only in .40. The Cohaire would save me some money in cost, ammo, and probably accessories. I already have an SBR 9mm AR, but wouldn't mind adding the H&K.

Anyway, I agree with a previous poster about the parts and stuff with the 9mm. You can get straight mags (which work fine for me in the SW5 and the CA89k) for dirt cheap (less than $20 I think), and they are only slightly used. New curved ones are $50 from hkspecialist.net. If you're looking to keep it as reasonably priced as possible, which is what your mentioning the Rugers would seem to imply, then I'd stick with the 9mm HK94 clone category. Tons of stuff available and lots of people with surplus from time-to-time. |
The thing I like the most about it is rapid fire rates that I can't achieve with anything else, while holding it on a target pretty well. You can pump a lot of lead into something 20 yrds. away in a really short time.
