Was wondering how the barrel is removed/changed on the MP5 type weapon?  When I study pictures it looks as though there is a pin holding the barrel in the trunnion and receiver, is this correct?  Thank you, NW

A cross pin holds the barrel,The barrel is pressed into the trunnion by a few tons of pressure.

How much effort does it take to remove the pin?  How about the barrel from the trunnion?  I'm looking into the difficulty of changing a 16" barrel to an SBR length.  Sounds like a press might be required to remove the pin in a similar fashion to the trunnion of an AK.  Thank you

Depending on who made the gun, some pins can be punched out.  The barrel can also be pressed out using threaded rods as a press.  If you want to go from 16" to stock MP5 barrel length, the simplest is to just chop the existing barrel as no refinishing would be required.  The muzzle can be left as is or it can be threaded while still on the receiver; just need a lathe with a big enough swing.  Thread it 1/2x28 and you can then attach a 3-lug adapter for that real HK look.

Yes ,you need a press and jigs. Getting the barrel out is simple. Just press it out with a large rod from the chamber forward and the trunnion against the press blocks. Pressing the barrel in is the tricky part. You need jigs to hold the receiver in alignment so you dont tweak it. Then you have to headspace it by the bolt gap. Then you install the front sight base. Its a job for an expert.

I would call Jayson at IGF (investmentgradefirearms.com)

He's THE go to guy for any HK build needs.

+1 for IGF.  Jayson made a semi auto version of the MP5 from an HK94 for me about a year ago that's super fine.  I just sent him a demilled German parts kit with a receiver flat to build another one.

I sent out my mp5 clone to  investment grade firearms its been 7 to 8 months never heard from him  every one said he is the man but I have to say his  customer service,
kind of sucks,I called last week 2 times a day for 5 days no call back, and know one picks up phone next I sent e mail still waiting for that to come back. I think that's the only way to get any where with them is e mail.

I've always emailed him and had success in doing so. His build he did for me last April took 1.5-2wks, as he squeezed it into his group of like guns.
