99 percent of the 93s made were for the 55 g bullet with a 1/12 twist. Only some of the very last ones had faster twists. I understand these later ones were actually barrelled with HK33 barrels and have a permamently attached flash hider.

Thanks for the info. I was going to guess 55 grain, but I wondered when the changeover was.

Isn't the 33 actually an older design?

Yes, it is. HK started to develope the '33' in the mid 60's and it entered production in 1968.

HK changed the twist rate when NATO adopted the 5.56x45 mm cartridge in 1980 and the bullet weight went from the 55gr. (M193) to the 62gr. (M855A1)
