guys, i just bought the mp5k semi-auto model and after reading some of the other posts here, have a couple of questions for other bw owners (and anyone else who wants to chime in! do you all have that "floppy" mag release paddle? mine flops around something fierce even with a mag inserted. how can that be fixed? what kind of trigger pack did you get? mine is metal and is s-e-f marked (e & f both fire semi-auto). can i get that switched by bw to plastic? do i want to? can you remove your front sight post? mine is a solid one-piece design (not adjustable). is the mag supposed to be loose in the mag well? can this be tightened up? should there be a little wiggle with the choate stock when extended? how many mags did you get? i got one sw 30rd mag. andy recommends hk curved, pof, sw, or turk. did you get any other accessories? i got the one mag and the manual. does anyone know where to get the 20rd mag for the k model? what would be involved with replacing the rear sight? i hate that set-up! other than that, i have to say it looks sweet. one guy at my fav gunstore who knows hk weps says the welds are as good as anything from hk and it handles nice and smooth. i'm planning on firing it this weekend... thanks for any input! |
I will try to answer the first couple......... (1) The flapper mag release should never be 'floppy'. Soulds like a poorly installed or out-of spec, mag release to me. They have anti-rattle type flapper mag releases, but I believe the anti-rattle refers to AFTER the magazine is installed, not BEFORE. In all the H&K's I own, none of my flappers make any noises. (2) I think your best bet is to purchase a plastic(composite) SEF trigger housing from one of the German H&K part sellers or get one from POF. You will also have to get a new plastic style selector too. Your trigger internals are good to use in the new plastic housing. If you go the ambi-packs, you will have to start from scratch with a whole new lower. SEF and ambi-packs are NOT interchangible. If I where you, I would look around for a used, in good shape, German SEF plastic housing and selector. I have a metal SEF on my MP5 and it works okay. I have not switched it out yet. (3) The front sight, from what I undertand are NOT adjustible. If the front site it out of adjustment, I would conclude the gun was not assembled and spec'd in correctly from Bobcat. I have not heard about many front site problems, I bet the problems are in the rear'adjustible' site? (4) The mags are not supposed to be loose and they are not supposed to be tight. Does that make sense? A German MP5 and German magazine, fit together snugly with little to no effort. Easy push and 'click' in place. If yours is rattling or drops out, it is out of spec. If you have to force it in place and yell profaine words at your gun, it is out of spec. |
| The mag release is floppy on mine as well and is on all the BW's as far as I know. It has to do with the way they are built. They said they can fix it but it requires a ton of work and way too costly to justify fixing a floppy release. Mine is only floppy when no mag is inserted, otherwise it is just fine. |

When answering these questions you must first ask for Bobcat owners answers. Hk owners will have different answers because Hk's are just that Hks. The mag release in all Bobcats flops loosely. They do not have the anti-rattle paddle. You will pay about 125.00 plus parts to fix, then a refinish if it can not be touched up. Any Hk lower can be converted to fit, just depends on how much your willing to pay to have it done. As for the front site...Hk's are finished before the front sight is installed.. Bobcats are finished with the front installed which means it can not be removed without breaking the painted finish and probably messing it up. As for the magwell, DONT mess with it as long as it fires ok. A little front and back play is ok. You dont want it too tight or mag changes are harsh. Hk's came originally with 15 rd mags. Do a search and you can find them around 40.00. And last the rear sight? Whats to hate about it? I think AR's should have this sight...its great! I dont know what else you could put in place. Try a Docter optic. they have sight bases which look like they go in place of the hooded one, but will be in the 200-300.00 range. |

The only issues i have had with the bobcat is with magizines and the failure to eject spent cases. After i aquired several POF licenced H&K 30 rd mags all these problems disapeared. The magizine release flap works well and never been a problem during magizine withdraw. I just with Bobcat would send a sight adjustment tool or device to allow new owners to make easy sight adjustments as the rear site tool is expensive and elusive to locate. |
