Hello all, I just picked up what appears to be a new in box SAR 3/8 overstamp that is in perfect condition except the paint is peeling off on the cocking handle side where is is stamped:

Sar 8 Sporter
EBO
Made in Greece

Does anyone else have this problem?  Also, what type of matte refinish do you suggest.  It's just happening where that stamp is.  Thanks in advance for your reply.

I've noticed a little of the same on mine.  I've heard black Rustoleum spray paint (satin, not gloss or matte) is almost an exact match for the HK finish.  Try it on an unseen area (like the receiver under where the stock fits on) first though.

This sounds like a great excuse to have it sent to Jayson at IGF for a nice environtech finish...

don't use spray paint unless you don't plan on using any gun cleaning solvent on your rifle for good.

The same thing happened to mine.  Black Alumihyde from Brownell's.  Clean it with alcohol and heat it up with at heat gun then spray.   Mine looks new now.

I've used Alumahyde on various gun parts and think it's pretty good stuff.  Duracoat is also good and easy to apply.
