I've been getting into the look and action of the MP5 lately. Are there actual HK MP5's out there in the market or have they been banned from import? I've seen pictures of clones being built by Ohio Rapid Fire, Tactical Weapons, and soon hopefully by Vector. Are these reliable and quality firearms that perform like the MP5? Is an MP5 clone subject to having a non-collapsible stock and the 16" overall barrel? |
1)I believe there are a few pre-86 registered reciever MP5s out there. All full auto. If you want semi-auto real HK, you want the HK94. Basically the same. 2)Tactical Weapons/SW are not generally reliable, and the owner is a dick. Ohio Rapid Fire has a good AK reputation, haven't seen a lot of Todd at ORF's HK stuff floating around and being reviewed though. Only one that I can recall, but it was a good review, IIRC. Another thought is Jayson at Investment Grade Firearms. He generally uses Special Weapons parts and actually makes them work and not look like ass. You can also replace parts with POF (POF now sells an entire MP5 parts kit)stuff, which is HK contract. Jayson can also build a MP5K as an AOW Class 3 gun. None are "real HK", but as good as you can get without spending $4k or more. It's what I'd go for if I even had $1k. 3)Since it's a post '94 gun, yes, unless you SBR it. Then you can lose the 16" barrel. The stock still can't be collapsable, you'll have to wait for September for that, hopefully. |
