Does anybody know what the difference between the SL8 and SL8-1 is? Also I have heard that HK is halting the import of the SL8-1 to the US. Anybody know if its true and if so why? Thank you, Shaun Hescock |

The SL8-1 is the USA version which only accepts single stack mags and the SL8 is the non US version which accepts 10rd doublestack mags and G36 30rd mags with a minor modification. The version sold outside the US does not have the indentation that prevents use of double stack mags. (Edited to add info and get the two versions straight.) |

Well, to clarify: Neither the SL8 nor the US's SL8-1 was designed to accept, without modification, the G36 magazines. Adaptions that allow an SL8-1 to accept "hi cap" magazines are much more difficult due to the fact that the receiver is modified to prevent conversion. A quick look at the SL8-1 clearly shows a pinched magazine well. I've never seen an SL8, but my memory is that the well is different. IMHO |

From HKPRO: The two main photographs of the SL8 shown here are from a German HK catalog, and this version differs from the U.S. import SL8-1 in only one characteristic. Though the SL8 as pictured will not accept the 30 round G36 magazines and 100 round Beta CMAGs, because of small nubs on the inside of the magazine well that prevent G36 magazines from fitting, the receiver remains unaltered. On the HKPRO discussion boards, you will see many posts related to vain attempts by SL8-1 owners in the United States to make G36 magazines fit.   SL8 with special offered G36 Optic without carrying handle that only appears to be available outside of the United States. Clearly shown is the non-indented receiver and magazine well that would allow this SL8 to accept the 30 round G36 and 100 round Beta CMAGs. Eat your heart out American SL8-1 owners. This is not for you. Here is a pic LARRYG36's SL8 conversion with a G36 magwell with a G36 30rd mag:  Seems to me that on the non US version, all you would have to do is either put on a G36 magwell to use 30rd mags or do the minor modification to the magwell that it came with. |
| Todd at Special Weapons LLC makes a mag well adapter for the sl-8 to accept AR mags and also offers an ATF approved G36 look alike stock that is non collapsable. An adapter for the mag well would be better than just 10rd mags if you want to have fun. Considering there are no "legal" 30rd G36 mags other than LEO/GOV mags. |

Yes SL8-1 not being imported any more Yes SL8-1 could be modified to take G 36 mags. It needs more Dremil work to do than to make it AR mag compliant. Hk suppose to be starting a plant in America and making M4 profile barrels for the HK G36. Go to www.hkpro.com there is a thread about it there. If this is true a m4 profile for those who like them with a HK gas system.....That is going to be sweet. I want to find another SL8 and do the G36 Mag conversion. Get the Knights Armament front hand guard and cut the lonf sight rail to fit only to the upper. My SL8 is still going Auto on me only when it gets hot after about the 3rd mag. If I let it cool down it starts out semi Again. |
