Ok, so I'm looking into scoping an 18" DSA FAL and have a few questions

I really like the idea of a 1-4x scope like the Burris xtr or the leatherwood hilux
Does anyone know anything about the leatherwood hilux 1-4x? Are they any good?
Are these capable of withstanding the recoil of 7.62 NATO? Are they calibrated only for 5.56 or are there 1-4x that are calibrated for 7.62 NATO?
I know that this rifle may benefit from a 10x but I don't see myself needing to reach out that far and I very much like the look of the small 1-4x
I'm open to other things though

I'm not looking to spend a lot $300-$400ish on glass not including the mount so no trijicon, NF etc.

thank you

I used a Leatherwood CMR 1-4, may be the same one you are talking about. It worked really good, and I was even able to hot a 2'x3' plate out to 750yrds with it. Was pretty hard to see the round impacts at that range with only 4 power though. I used Leupold medium height rings on mine to keep it as low as possible to the bore. I will double check the ring height tonight when I get home.

Hey OP.   I am in the same boat sort of.   I have been running a Nikon 2-8x32 BDC on my FAL with 14.5" bbl but am going to put the scope on my new SIG556xi so am looking for another optic to put on it.

I have a Millet DMR 1-4 I thought about using but u have to pretty much be right on it to get a good field  of view.   So want something for quick response.
I have thought about a Eotech 512 with 3x magnifier.   But that is way above your budget and mine.

The SWFA Super Sniper scopes are awesome scopes and can take a beating, I have 10X and a 20X but I am sure they come in 6x now too and they start at $299 and at one time these had a Navy contract.

I think it's ok to post a link since I see them as a sponsor here.

I've never heard a bad review from anyone who actually owns one of these scopes.

Thanks for all the replies.
When a scope is calibrated for 5.56 what does that mean exactly? Can you use one on a 7.62?

Nictra, awesome rifle !

for the most part, the bullet drop indicators on the CMR worked well for the FAL, at least out to 500. After that the variances became more noticeable. At those ranges I only shot at steel, not paper, so I don't have any accurate way to tell for sure other than I could hit what I was aiming at using the the bullet drop lines.

I was already leaning toward the cmr. You may have just sold me. It stood up to the recoil? Another question, does the zero stay true at every power or is it only true on the one you zeroed it for?

I did have one issue. The illumination knob came loose after taking a course. Leatherwood has a fantastic warranty and good customer service and replaced the whole scope. Have not had any other issues with it. It does get some brass kisses from time to time though, so you may need to adjust your gas some to keep from hitting the scope.
