Finally got the Form 4 and my can, going to mount it on my SA 58 carbine when the mount comes in.
I am running an SDN 762.

Do you fellows have any input on unanticipated difficulties?
are there gas settings you have found that work well?
ammo even?

I have already ran the can on my DPMS RECON and TAVOR
the FAL is a different system

any experience and input would be appreciated

regards

Start out the same way you would for unsuppressed. Adjust till bolt locks back on empty mag. For suppressed, i would open all the way, then work backwards.  I'm debating the plus vs con of running an aac on my sar-4800. Not sure if i want to drop another $100 for the mount or not, cash is very tight and not a must have item.

Have you tried it on yours yet, or waiting on more feedback before investing in the muzzle adapter? (ETA - didn't see your post for referral while typing my response and left it up for a while - I see you're just waiting for your adapter).

I've run my 16" DSA carbine with a 762SD 51-tooth FH. I bought the rifle "as new" many years ago, but turns out it was a cut-down Steyr barrel with a FH soldered on that I doubt came that way from DSA. I had a gunsmith friend recrown and thread for the AAC adapter (with extreme attention to concentricity) after I removed the FH. As reference, it typically shoots extremely well and with vigorous ejection unsuppressed on a 4.5 gas setting.

Suppressed, I open the gas up completely. I've had zero POI shift. Groups with Port surplus have been 0.5" at 50 yards on multiple outings using an Aimpoint. I've not tried longer distances as this is just a fun setup for me and I have multiple setups for longer ranges. Assuming has something to do with the shorter barrel and less whip as I've not gotten nearly that good of groups with any other FAL, and certainly didn't expect it with this one.

A word of caution - make sure you open up the gas setting completely for suppressed! My first suppressed shot I tried at my normal setting and it felt like my face was blown off. <- That's about how I felt after that shot. Apparently it unlocked the bolt earlier due to the backpressure of the suppressor, resulting in A LOT of blow back through the ejection port into my face. Fortunately I ALWAYS wear glasses while shooting suppressed.

As to sound levels - friends who are accustomed to my suppressed shooting (with various suppressors on bolt, semi, and full) were very favorably impressed with the sound reduction. I was as well.

I think you'll enjoy it if you do decide to suppress it.

Just curious - how heavy is that FAL with the suppressor?  (And I assume its NOT the short gas system 16, but the standard?)

Yes, it is the full-length gas system. "Stock" Steyr kit on DSA receiver other than shortened barrel, AAC 51-tooth FH, railed dust cover, PG replaced with SAW grip, and no bipod (removed due to horrible weight addition and no gain other than looking cool folded). Oh, and some trigger work (with proper parts) to get it to a reasonably crisp 6lb pull from a gritty 9+lb pull, althought that didn't impact the rifle's weight in any measurable amount.

By my digital postal scale, the bare rifle is 9lb-1oz.
+762SD suppressor = 10lb-7oz.
+loaded Steyr (steel) mag = 12lb-1oz.
+Aimpoint M2 = 12lb-13oz.

Amazing how a "compact lightweight" FAL can add up.

Back to the OP's question (especially after rereading and hopefully completely comprehending it now ) - big thing I'll reiterate (as already noted by jim and echoed in my previous post) is to start with the gas setting fully open. Backpressure is extreme in my experience if left on setting for unsuppressed firing. This surprised me as I've never been hit that hard by AR-style rifles (both .5.56 and .308) with charging handles even when I fired them suppressed (and even FA) without setting them to "suppressed." I didn't expect that with the enclosed rear receiver of the FAL design.
