I am new to the FAL.
I picked up an ABL scope today at the gunshow.
Can anyone tell me anything about it.. I know to set the windage and elevation, but how?
What is the dial on top? BDC?

I picked up a similar one while in Honduras many years ago. It's a bit different than yours, so I'm not sure if what works on mine will apply to yours.

The knob is a BDC.

To adjust for windage on elevation, mine has an Allen head set screw that I can loosen and then use a screwdriver or coin to adjust it.

Do you mind saying what you paid for it?

The OP  shows a correct Belgian Army (grey paint) 1958 model OIP.  It is correct for the shown side strap mount.

Crchristo's is a 1963 model 3,6x which was used with the over-the-bore strap mount.  This uses the same strap mount as the Hensoldt.

I have the manual for OPs' scope somewhere, you can probably find it on the internet.

The BDC on this one stops at 5. I wasn't fully aware of what I was buying at the time... I just knew it would work with iron sights, and look original.
Its being made off an early German G1 parts kit

I paid 300$. Its a bit much, yes.. But I know how hard it is to find vintage military scopes... and especially something as cool as this.
Being that I had sold an aimpoint for 250$ a few minutes early, it didn't hurt my wallet as much.

The only manual I can find is in French.

Abom, you must know your stuff! Thanks for the info.

I traded a Honduran soldier a couple of MREs for mine. I really had no idea at the time what it was actually for. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I no longer have the original straps or mount it came with. I promptly mounted it to my M16 (M4s had not been adopted yet) using an adaptor rail for the carrying handle. Not knowing what it was calibrated for, I tried working with the BDC after zeroing it. Of course, I never got it to work!

Into a box it went, and I just recently found it with a bunch of my old military gear from my time in the Army.

I forgot to mention that the manual is in Flemmish.  Sorry.  But you can look at the pictures!  LOL.
