I have an opportunity to trade for a Springfield Armory SAR4800  in .223/5.56.
I have owned 2 differeny FAL type rifles, both were Century built and I had never had any problems. 1 was an Imbel receiver and the other was a Century receiver.
Any way,I was not aware of the SAR 4800 or that there were .223 variations.
The owner of the 4800 has original box and 3 mags,Bushnell Elite scope and Harris type bipod.
I have a Remington R 25 .308 as a trade with original hard case,2 20 round and 1 10 round DPMS mags,Burris Fullfied II scope.
I am unsure of this trade. I do know the 4800 are well built and pretty rare.
Seems it is more of a collector item than a shooter. I am not a collector.

I cannot make up my mind.
Would any one make that trade?

Not in a gillion years. If you have an AR15 or a Mini 14, just duct tape a couple of bricks to it and save yourself the trouble.

always kicked myself for passing on the 2 I have come across over the years. That being said, I've never shot one, so I can only say that I've only seen the 2 in person since 1992.

The 4800 in .223 is a collector's item.

If you want a FAL, buy a kit build.

If you want .308, well then buy a FAL or keep the .308 you have.

If you want a collectible, then trade for the 4800.

I bought one in the late 90's.  I planned on "De-banning" it back then and only got around to installing new, US made DS Arms handguards.   Never did anything else to it, and probably haven't shot it in over 15 years.  Its kind of like having those items you own because its rare, you don't want to sell it, but on the same hand its something that I never use or get true enjoyment from.  Not a safe-squeen, more like a dust-collector.

The SAR 4800 usually sell for around $2k so I think it would have been a decent trade. I would love to get my hands on a SAR4800.
