I am looking to finally scope my DSA STG 58. I have been shooting irons for a while now and am looking for a little better accuracy at medium ranges. I don't really forsee myself shooting at over 400 yards with this rifle. I like the idea of a 1-4x or 1-6x so I can shoot with some magnification and still dial it back to shoot both eyes open for close in shots. I am not looking to get tiny groups necessarily (it is a fal after all ), just something to improve more distant shots. I know you get what you pay for but I am really hoping to stay under 300 bucks on this if possible. Any ideas?

I have a Leupold VX II 1-4 X 20 on my DSA Stg 58 that is mounted on a DSA mount.  I really like it because it is very versatile.  It has held up up. It is compact and fits well with low profile rings.

Get a Leatherwood CMR, little more than $300, but the quality and features of the scope are astounding for that price.

Personally, I wouldn't even compare those two to the CMR, the reticle types are totally different. It comes down to what you really want to do with your FAL and what type of reticle you prefer.
For a FAL, I'd choose the CMR, since it is calibrated for .308 and .556 ballistic drop.

I only have one recomedation a Hensoldt 4X with arms mounts or an original mou if availale. nothing else look right. kinda pricy now look at SAMCO global for scope. youll pay alittle more but the quality is there and you still get a G3 mount to sell. my2 cents

I'm using a Zeiss Conquest on my SAR-48 and I love it. Especially since it has a longer eye relief I can put it in a set low rings to get a good cheek weld and still clear the rear sight since it sits in front of it. But of your options I'd go with the CMR.

I use the CMR. I like it a lot and have had good results out to 800.

I shoot mostly MIL SURP like Portuguese in 147 grain. How accurate will that be the 308 ballistic drop on the CMR since it is for 168 grain?

Another thing for anybody using the cmr scope....... How does the weight feel? In comparison to scopes I am looking at it looks like it weighs about double the other scopes I was looking at.

Burris scope with BDS reticule.  DSA scope mount/top receiver cover.  Leupold QRW (mid height) mounts.  Absoutlely will fit on any StG 58 FAL, and GTG with scope hash marks out to 500 yds,  BTDT.

At sub 400yds, I'm not sure the difference would be noticeably significant, but you can google a ballistic chart and look at the difference. Also, not sure how accurate milsurp portugese 7.62x51 is compared to modern M80C 7.62x51 or even 168gr HPBT match ammo, so you might want to consider that; again, probably won't matter too much sub 400yds, should be good for Minute of Man.

Millet DMS in Millet medium rings. Also no cowitness, but I like it for the money. I suppose you could go cheaper and get the primary arms knockoff scope, but I haven't handled one personally.
