I have a DSA SA 58 with the factory bipod attached to the barrel.  I want to remove it so I took it to the funshop I purchased it from.  They tried to remove it with the proper castle nut tool but could not budge it.  Any suggestions?

Buy the castle nut removal tool from DSA, and carefully remove the nut first, and then the screw.  The screw threads into the bipod as well as the nut.

see, I knew something was missing! I couldn't place it, but now I do, the castle nut....Did they all have them?

are you sure its not the quick detach version?

Not the quick detach version.  I would know if it was.  They said they had the castle nut tool and tried it but it would not come off

I took the bipod off of my DSA G1 by using a proper sized screw driver and tape covered vise grips on the castle nut. It was easier than I expected.

Taking the bipod off has made a world of difference, I never used it, it was heavy, and it looked goofy to boot.

took my bi-pod off and it didn't weigh much IMO. Then shouldering the weapon was easier, so it must weigh enough to make a difference. I was quite surprised. I am rather fond of it though. Rather have and not need....

Mine came off with just a screwdriver too.  I put it back on because it is not that heavy, and I thought it was kinda cool..kinda.

I would like to see them do it again.   The tool has an amazing amount of bite and with a wratcheting handle, a huge amount of torque- enough to bust the whole thing.    I'm guessing that something was done wrong.   Did they heat it?   What if DSA (or somebody) used locktite?   Did they soak it in oil or breakfree?  Did you see the tool yourself?   Does it fit properly?   Did they use wratchet or other extension handle for force?   Did they get afraid they'd bust their precious tool and quit?  Is the castle nut staked?
