I want to add a scope to my FAL, I know I need a DSArms like railed top cover, and I have a Vortex 1" Crossfire 3-9x 40, but when I mount it I want to retain use of the iron sights, can anyone recommend some decent rings to me that wont cost an arm and a leg?
I also want to keep the center scope access down a low as possible, getting a set of Extra-High rings will not work for me. |

I used a scope on several FALs over the years and I would advise aganist try to use the fixed sights with a scope mounted.
The rings required to see below the scope would be so high that you would never get a good cheek weld. I suggest using a low power scope (4x max) mounted as low over the receiver as possible. One way to keep the option to use the fixed sights is by using some type of quick disconnect rings. That way if the scope is damaged you can just pop-off the scope and go to irons if needed. LaRue makes really good QD rings that should hold zero when the scope is removed/replaced. Let us know what you go with. Shoot safe, EMSflyer |

Shoot safe, EMSflyer I know all about Larue mounts, and for this endeavor that will break my spending limit by a lot, and QD mounts for this scoping are not necessary, they would be nice, and if I win the lotto or someone wants to give them to me then I will use them, but money being what it is. I am looking for a more budget conscious set of rings, to go with more budget scope (that has a lifetime warranty). |

I may be wrong but I do not know of any rings that will meet your 3 criteria.
The only thing that comes to mind would be a A.R.M.S. no#5 mount with turn knobs. That is what I just got since it also has a STANAG mount in it. It allowed me to mount my Hensoldt Z24 and it does have a channel that allows me to at least see the top half of my front sight. Not what I would consider perfect view of my front sight but it is better then nothing. I do use a cheek rest and I am thinking about the no#7 A.R.M.S. since it sits lower but i will see if the one I got grows on me first. I figured a low mounted ring would do the trick. Around $55. Bear in mind that the objective of my scope is small enough not to block my "iron sight view". |
